029 Stihl Questions & Advice ???

Hi, I figure if you guys have Cub Cadets, then you probably also have chainsaws, so here is my 029 Stihl question and a bit of advice. First, my advice: I have just been into a frustrating scenario dealing with the bar oil cap on my 18-yr-old 029 Stihl "Farm Boss" The manual advised tightening the o...

My Review of the Generic Aftermarket Starter/Generator

I thought I would post my experience with installing and using one of the generic aftermarket starter/generators that can be found on both ebay and Amazon. Both of my genuine Delco 1101692 S/G, with new brushes and bearings, will spin freely when bench-tested, but neither will do more than wiggle th...

Re: Bead Breaker ???

I often use the jack on the front of a goose-neck trailer to push tire beads loose; this works regardless of how large or small the tire may be. Of course, the trailer must be connected to a truck so the jack is free to put the tire under it. I place a plank under the rim so it doesn't get pushed in...

129 Hydro Forward/Reverse Lever ???

The forward/reverse control lever on my 129 has shed it's splines. The splines on the steel shaft appear to be fine; but, the splines inside the lever are slick as a mole. I used to have a couple Cub Cadet parts sites book-marked that had excellent EASY to navigate parts diagrams; alas, they have "n...

Re: BELTs for 129 ????

I know this thread is a bit dated, but I thought I would post these belt numbers and measurements. I recently had my first belt failures since buying the 129 in 2012 (I think); the blade spindle belt and the "mule-drive" belt both failed within the same mowing, although that mowing was spread over a...

Tell me more about this Haban sickle mower; does it attach to a Cub Cadet ?

A sickle-bar would be just the thing for getting underneath low hanging limbs, briars, and such.

Re: Repair Spark Plug Threads ???

So far, so good....... It has rained a monsoon every day for the past twelve weeks with intense lightning and strangling humidity and, due to various complications, the grass is higher than the fenders and over the hood in spots. After giving the sealant a couple hours, I fired up the engine and pro...

Re: Repair Spark Plug Threads ???

The ebay vendor had my kit in my PO box by 6:20 AM yesterday and I have spent the morning in the broiling sun getting the new insert installed. I did this job with the head still on the engine. After careful measurement and consideration, I decided the shortest insert was the correct one for the job...

Thank you, Tom Scott I have gotten in the habit of reading all the reviews of anything I buy or intend to buy, even if I already know it is a stellar product, as I often find all sorts of ideas and information that prove useful. That being said, in one of the reviews of the HeliCoil kits, I learned ...

Re: Repair Spark Plug Threads ???

George, you are using the wrong spark plug. The J19LM is intended for push mowers. Also, it lacks the correct amount of thread reach. The correct Champion plug is the H10C. Most folks prefer to run with the Autolite 216 which is an exact replacement. In the photo comparison you can see that the J19...

Does anyone know the proper thread diameter/pitch of these spark-plugs; the one in my engine is a J19LM; are they 14mm X 1.25 or what ?

Re: Repair Spark Plug Threads ???

After letting things cool an hour or so, I fixed the old spark-plug such that it will now fire. With the engine now much cooler (still pretty hot, just not so hot as it was), I managed to get the old plug screwed in. I torqued it just barely more than finger tight and it held. I fired up the engine ...

Repair Spark Plug Threads ???

I was mowing away and the spark-plug blew out; shot like dynamite and a big ball of fire came from under the hood. The old {found it) plug's threads will sort of catch and hold, but it won't start. A brand-new same brand (Champion) plug just spins in the hole and will not catch; of course, the old p...

Re: 129 Starter Problem ???

I did Dale Campbell's suggestion and, checking with my DVM, with the big "A" starter cable removed from the starter, there is full battery voltage passing through the solenoid when energized; of course, who is to say whether full battery amperage is also passing through. With the cable attached to t...

Thank you, Dale Campbell. It is too dark to mess with it now, so I hope to gather a few more details before I get opportunity to continue with the diagnosis. I can barely lay eyes on the solenoid/relay and what I can see of it is hidden behind a bunch of wires. Is it a standard flat-mount relay that...

If I can find a level spot, I will experiment with getting the deck to suspend itself; I may have to bring it in the house to find a place level enough. :)

Re: New owner of a 129

Generally deck gauge wheels should be used to prevent grounding the deck, but not ride on the ground all the time. That is hard on lift frames. Better to have the deck hanging in most situations and have the gauge wheels touching occasionally on uneven ground. Please explain this a bit further. As ...

My 129 will not (or barely) turn over. Battery is fully charged and in excellent shape; even have it jumper-cabled to a running diesel truck. Re: PTO/CLUTCH DIS-ENGAGER

Seeing as how I do not have the brake, and I do have a wear-button, then I must need #IH-473477-R3 center-button, right ?? (even though my serial# says I should have the brake.)

If I had the PTO brake, I would not have a wear-button, right ??

Many thanks.

Re: PTO/CLUTCH DIS-ENGAGER

It depends on what the serial number of your tractor is and if it still has the PTO clutch with a brake. If the S/N is 482000 or above, the PTO has a brake and the P/N you listed is correct for the thrust button (item 14 in the parts manual/lookup). If the S/N is 481999 or below it does not have a ...

As best I can determine, the "thrust button" that resides in the center of the PTO is

Is this the correct number for what I seek ??

DECK LIFT ARM

While seeking PTO parts, I stumbled upon this :

They show two "adjustable lift rod", one longer and one shorter; are these the push-button rod that sets mower-deck height ??

Thanks.
