Re: 129 dies too easy ???
Not sure how you would check compression on that engine with the auto. comp. release (ACR) Thanks for the torque values. On EDIT: Before now, I was unaware that my engine had automatic compression release; hence, a vast internet search for info and a lot of reading has taken place. Straight from th...

Re: 129 dies too easy ???
Check the compression. Sounds like it could be a leaking head gasket. Thanks again. Since reading this, I have been doing quite a bit of nosing around to see what is available so as to be emotionally, if not financially, prepared for this eventuality; thus has led me to several questions. 1. In rea...

Re: 129 Carb Gaskets ?
Post a picture of what you have, both are stamped right into the carb. But! Kohler bought Carter and took off the name. I will get a picture in a day or two. Did Kohler buy ALL of Carter, or just this particular model ? I have several Carter fuel delivery pumps on my collection of 6BT Cummins power...

Re: 129 Carb Gaskets ?
What carb do you have? Carter or walbro? Sounds like you have a walbro. If so keep it going as longs as you can and it messed up again find a Carter. 3/8 socket 1/4” Drive fits perfect. I only use OEM Kohler kits they always fit right. Last I recall around 12-15$ for the 25-757-01 used on the Carte...

Re: 129 dies too easy ???
Check the compression. Sounds like it could be a leaking head gasket. Thanks: that is one possibility that I would never have thought of on my own. Is a Harbor-Freight compression-checker sufficient for this job ? I have done just about everything else, but I have never checked compression on anyth...

129 dies too easy ???
I have been chasing a few problems with the running of my 129. I installed a new coil and that took care of the "die when it gets hot and absolutely will not start until it cools off" situation. However, it still has the problem (and I hope I can explain this) where it will get in thick grass and de...

Re: 129 Carb Gaskets ?
Well..., this adventure was a big flop. The only thing correct in the double kit were the gaskets. My original needle seat had a big screw-driver slot in the top and it only took me a couple seconds to see why; the new seat has a hex down at the bottom end --- where it is impossible to get at with a...

Re: Front Wheel Bearing on my 129 ???
Those are correct for your 129 and any other pre-1975 cub Cadet, the exception being the original it used brass bushings. Thanks. The seller messaged me the dimensions and I will post them here for when someone else stumbles upon this page. 1-3/8" O.D. x 3/4" I.D. He did not know whether the 129 wa...

Front Wheel Bearing on my 129 ???
I have always religiously greased the front wheel Alemites on my 129; of course, I have no idea whether they were ever greased during the first forty-some-odd years. I noticed this evening that, from all appearances, the left-front wheel bearing must be completely gone. I read somewhere about someon...

129 Carb Gaskets ?
I discovered my carburetor was dripping fuel when the engine was off, probably also when it was running. I removed the carburetor, checked and cleaned things up; I slowed down the drip, but did not stop it. This sent me on a quest for some new gaskets: https://www.amazon.com/Harbot-Carburetor-Repair...

Re: Fuel Tank Shut-off Valve ???
Thank you so much ! If you hadn't told and shown me, I may have never known the filter made onto the shut-off valve even existed; I bet the one on mine is mostly clogged up. Thanks for the pictures of the vanity plates; that explains the mystery of what those two threaded holes on my tank brackets a...

Re: Fuel Tank Shut-off Valve ???
Why drain the tank? Do you have the factory style petcock on the tank? If so there is a filter protruding into the tank that can get clogged, I don't run any other filter. I always shut the valve off, remove the four bolts from the dash and remove the two 5/16 screws from the vanity plates (if your...

Fuel Tank Shut-off Valve ???
Of course I had just filled the gasoline tank on my 129, plumb into the neck, when the starter solenoid decides to quit working. The only way I see to access the solenoid is to drain and remove the tank, hence my question. The inline filter is very recently new. With the fuel-cap off and the tank sh...

Re: Alternate Fuels in Vintage Tractors ???
So I guess that "Distillate" "All Fuel" and "Tractor Fuel" are basically all the same stuff. I would assume that one could burn diesel in one of these dual-fuel engines with pretty much the same result as "distillate" Looking at the opposite end of the horse, if one ran low on the alternate fuel, ye...

Re: Alternate Fuels in Vintage Tractors ???
Thank you, SWilliams, for the detailed explanation. So, if I read that correctly, most "distillate" tractor engines ran the distillate through the carburetor and it was fired by the plugs, right? The process reads very much like the procedure one uses when using unprocessed cooking oil in a diesel e...

Re: Alternate Fuels in Vintage Tractors ???
I found this explanation of what distillate fuels are: http://www.cpchem.com/en-us/company/Pages/DistillteFuelOil.aspx According to that, "distillate fuel" is a broad term covering everything from #1 furnace oil to #4 diesel fuel, which would make me think that a "distillate fuel" engine most likely...

Alternate Fuels in Vintage Tractors ???
When reading specifications of various early tractors, I, more often than not, see various engine options that burn fuels other than gasoline or diesel; yet, I have seen very little in the way of explanations of these alternate fuels and how the engines were different. Kerosene: I know what Kerosene...

Re: 129 Dies and is Hard to Start Again ???
Well, this is not so easy as I first thought; admittedly, I am not well versed in gasoline ignition systems. Most of the coils I am finding have one threaded terminal and the other terminal is a two-bladed affair; both terminals on my coil are threaded. On EDIT: I can now see that both are the same ...

129 Dies and is Hard to Start Again ???
After sitting for a couple days, my 129 will start quick and runs well. However, after an hour or so of mowing, with very little if any warning, the engine will die; at this time, any attempts at restarting will only result in draining the battery. I can walk away and leave it for an hour or so and ...
