Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
I use kohler starter drive grease. The cub cadet dealer near me keeps a few tubes for nerds like me. I screen shotted the stuff on Jack's small engines with the part number so you can search it.

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
Finally got back on the cyclops. Made new brackets for the fire wall, the originals were rotted in half, got that m18 back where she belongs, and got what's left of the plastic front end reinstalled. She is breathing fire 🔥 once again boys!! 20220320_150428.jpg 20220320_154413.jpg 20220320_18...

Re: Copper head gaskets
It's never more informative than I'm looking for. Thank you for a very thought provoking reply. I was thinking someday maybe making a copper gasket for the m18, I had heat transfer more in mind than compression gains. I was thinking that a cooler head is a better head, even if only marginally, but a...

Re: Copper head gaskets
I've never blown a stock gasket either, in my cubs. But as I was prepping my m18, I started thinking about a copper gasket. So I ordered some copper sheet that is .062 thick. With my measurements, it should have plenty of clearance for the piston and valves unless you neglect the engine and let the ...

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
Valves are already checked, I had those gaskets on hand, and the starter bendix is cleaned and lubed. The chassis is cleaned, and I had to fabricate 2 new fire wall brackets to replace rusty ones. Tomorrow, the mighty magnum goes back together, and hopefully back in!

Re: This is pretty neat
Big Mike! I see you're from Michigan, but sadly downstate, about 9 hours south of me. If I'm ever down that way again, I would love to stop by and see your machines. I was just down in the thumb about a month ago picking up a new to me cub. Not much to see here as far as Cubs anymore. I am down to ...

Copper head gaskets
When I was in my early twenties, I used to race karts powered by a Briggs raptor 3 (basically a 5hp Briggs given the barry bonds treatment) engine. We used copper head gaskets for 2 reasons. They were considerably thinner than oem type gaskets, increasing compression just a tad, and better heat diss...

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
Oh the 450 definitely came off first! It just got dragged back and it's just resting on the frame horns to save floor space.

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
Well, my beloved cyclops had an ignition module failure. Got the parts ordered, and decided to pull the heads while the m18 was on the bench

Re: This is pretty neat
FYI...The original poster of this thread also used build all kinds of neat things .. back in the day. I think that's why he posted this because he was working on plans for a rocket cub! He was a legend in his time. I heard from someone that he once worked for a space program or something to do with...

Re: New to this forum, but not cubs!
That is the complaint on them, everyone here's 15-18 hp and thinks it's underpowered and useless. What they forget is that back then they designed tractors to use gear reduction drives, rotating mass, and torque to keep a low hp rating, but still do gobs of work, without running low on power. That 1...

Re: New to this forum, but not cubs!
I agree, hydro on a loboy would be fantastic! However that silky smooth 4 cylinder has ZERO vibration, and is so quite you can carry a normal conversation while it's running full tilt. There's things I do where I wish it was a hydro, then there's other times I am glad it's not. The only thing I cons...

Re: New to this forum, but not cubs!
20200711_121426.jpg Well here she is. Quite the workhorse this one is. It was owned since new by the local DPW. I purchased it from them with the rake, grader blade, and harrow about 4 years ago. I've since bought a boom pole, living in the woods, this is my most used attachment dragging trees arou...
