Re: And I came home with two dollars

The deck cleaned up real nice and it's been placed into storage. The center spindle has a little bit of play and the outer two are nice and tight. DSCN0385.JPG The PTO was a bit of a struggle to get off but there's been worse. DSCN0386.JPG The threads in the oil pan are much better than expected, th...

Re: And I came home with two dollars

I attempted to remove the carb and the entire engine moved. No bolts in the oil pan at all. Aluminum pan. Someone had laced springs, wire, and blocks of wood as a method of holding the engine in place. Just amazing. DSCN0380.JPG So now's a s good a time as any to rebuild the clutch, I think it needs...

And I came home with two dollars

Went to a local engine show today. Good thing I had a spare Benjamin tucked away, there's never any telling what you can turn up. So this 128 wound up jumping into my Son's trailer, it came along with a solid 42" QA deck. My first wide frame. Help  DSCN0374.JPG Here it is on the ground. This sh...

Um, no. A group of belville washers to replace the existing teaser spring. I hear that it works well.
Just consider this, no sharp edges to catch on to-

Re: Cub 70 clutch teaser spring, broke again

The clutch works the same. Given the added .110 stack thickness there will be a fork adjustment needed. That little collar will be under a lot of stress and a high strength alloy is needed to avoid distortion at the face so if your thinking about using aluminum or something like that don't do it. I ...

Re: Cub 70 clutch teaser spring, broke again

The problem is it's about a huge spring smashing against a much smaller one, always has. Lousy design. The matter was resolved in the later series as it should be but that does nothing for a narrow frame machine. I fabricated up a spacer collar that takes away that undue stress on the spring by prev...

I think that those springs are prone to hooking on the slot of the driven disc. I put a thin 5/8' machine shim between the two before install.

Re: Not what I was expecting

It's a good question Jay and a decision that I did not take without over 20 years thinking about :? While I have never gotten water in the basement water does tend to drain poorly on that side, it runs down off the hill and parks at the first flat place it finds. While on the Eastern side that nearb...

Well it seemed to work just fine but better it is to test on something.
10 and 1/2 tons of stone should do the trick.

Re: Not what I was expecting

The worst is already over. A strong magnet that I had placed inside years ago did it's job well. No other damage. The shaft stump can live inside the bottom of the axle housing where it will not bother anything. The oil is real clean and I intend to reuse most of it. Not bad for a machine that's alw...

Not what I was expecting

So back at the end of January I was pushing some real heavy wet snow uphill. The machine came to a stop. My expectations were that I had sheared a spirol pin. Well so today I had to get the snow tires off anyway. The left side went Ok.
Then I moved over to the right side. Whoops.

Re: 106 No Charge

I'd begin by ditching your old wire harness and getting a new replacement from Dave or elsewhere. That series has a reputation of the harnesses atomizing into dust after 35 years or so. Folks make repairs on them but to me that is simply not worth the expense, time, or effort. A replacement harness ...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

My blade fitted 102 looks as though it is going to be down for the duration of the Winter. I'm fairly sure that the spirol pin at the transmission reduction housing end has sheared. The drive shaft and clutch seem to work just fine. Pretty sure that the #5 drive shaft end connection to the input sha...

Many smaller parts cannot be replicated. Plastic injection molded parts are one example.
To the best of my understanding I got the very last 1x6,7 manual lift handle hand grip some years ago.

I have a second one of those someplace in the big pile. Probably near the bottom no doubt-

Why would someone do that? :?
