Re: The Official Weather Thread!

Six inches of rain in 24 hours with another three just a few days before is hardly normal. We were just lucky, that's all, surrounding towns became islands. I have seen the Connecticut river this high only a couple of times before. DSCN1113.JPG DSCN1114.JPG It's rather rare to see the flood gates op...

Re: The Official Weather Thread!

Back in the end of May we had a hard frost that wiped out any chance of an apple crop along with who knows what else this year. That was followed by four weeks of no rain. Then we wound up with three weeks of bad air due to the Canadian wild fires. Then nearly one week of excessive heat in the 90+ d...

Re: Mower deck baffle

I see no point in conducting experiments using a perfectly good deck. They don't make these things any more. I did however place a hydraulic jack along with some sturdy wooden blocks directly inside of the discharge chute to maximize the opening. DSCN0997.JPG Regarding tools and the usage of tools a...

Re: Mower deck baffle

I need to get myself over to Tractor Supply and pick up 3 four foot  strips of 1/8" x 1 1/2" C.R.S. This project is not at the top of my list, the 38" refurbished deck with those shortened up 42" blades on the 128 is doing a great job. And all the bending sizes that I need will come directly from of...

Re: Mower deck baffle

Thank you Chuck, I'll keep that under consideration. I think I've got all I need for now. And I'm leaning toward making the baffle from three sections at this point. My first step was to get the shell media blasted. Coal slag was used. DSCN0987.JPG I'm pleased with the outcome. One bag was used. It ...

Earlier this week I got the call that the marker had been set.
So today the Wife and I made the two mile drive to go have a look see for ourselves.

Re: Mower deck baffle

I ground enough of this rusty scale out of this deck to get sick and tired of it. Twice. I know a guy. In process of making plans to send it off for sand blast. DSCN0964.JPG The old baffle material measured around .083 thick. 14 gauge. Have not ruled out going up to 12 gauge. I am going to keep the ...

Re: 38" deck

Yes, a carbide blade chop saw would have made fast work of that, alas I no longer have free reign amongst a 300 person machine shop so improvision becomes the mother of invention. The disc grinder did just fine. The thing there I think was to be sure that the center hole was in fact on center. I too...

Does anyone reproduce the deck baffle for the 42' and 38" decks?

Re: 38" deck

Here's the 38" deck with the trimmed down 42" blades on it. I'll test it out this Afternoon. Anything will beat the rounded off, fragmenting things that were on there, at the time it was all I had. Re: 38" deck

I'm following Joe's advise and are transfering the cast spindle assemblies over to the 42" deck shell in far better condition. They are very smooth and tight even after twenty years since rebuild. Grease them often and they last a real long time. DSCN0951.JPG I had looked into buying parts to build ...

So they all do interchange, that's a huge plus! I kinda had that bolt pattern logged away in my memory bank but still was not sure. Re: 38" deck

The belt tension pulley was a fast fix but the center spindle is another matter. There is some damage to the pulley, and a lot to the spindle. I'm getting .754 on the pulley and .740 on the spindle. So it was loose for a while. DSCN0902.JPG After pricing that spindle on line I'll be borrowing a good...

38" deck

Yesterday my Son came home with a 38" deck and he handed it off to me. DSCN0894.JPG Now, I have wanted to try one of these on my lawn for some years now. Most all of my lawn is steeply sloped and pretty uneven too and I have speculated for a long time that a smaller deck would cut back on scalping v...

Hi Chuck, there are two basic styles of the non braking clutch that I know of. The single spring style DSCN0898.JPG And the double spring style DSCN0386.JPG Neither should slip under load, if it does then it's likely time for a rebuild. You will need the correct setting tool to assemble the clutch p...

Re: New Project

The push toward electrification is running rampant in my state and there are many of us that don't like it at all. For starters the vast majority of our electric service is imported. No one seems to make mention of that. Second, large rural sections of the grid lack the necessary improvements to sup...

There was a time when purchases such as yours were quite common, these days not so much any more. You did good! More than enough parts to round out one really nicely opted 125 for sure. I followed the advise posted here and ran a mix of Marvel Mystery oil at five ounces to o...

They were both very much underrated and way ahead of their time back in the day. They were very substantially constructed. Fifty years later it's all going full circle back to this. Today I drove it like I stole it. Pushing back two foot high wet snow banks in second gear for almost an hour. It balked but it never stalled. It is all constipated with sticky crud inside and needs a good enema. And that burnt up crud at the exhaust manifold is leaky head gasket. I'll be pulling of...
