Re: IH 782 refurb
Ace Hardware has a material you can buy that looks original for dirt cheap then cut it to the correct shape and glue it on. That's how I've done a couple for a friend that wanted original. A few dollars does it

Re: IH 782 refurb
Thanks guys. Kind of glad I'm done with it. Didn't mean to get in that deep but it always happens As for the foot rests, I have several sets from when I used to have old junk parts cubs. Every x82 series I've done with any intention of keeping got those foot rests. I think it requires one extra hole...

Re: IH 782 refurb
I think I can mostly call it done now. All the small things have been taken care of. I was going to repaint deck and subframe but did this around 5 years ago and it just tends to get scratched, nicked, and rust anyway. I have some HD pics but figured I'd respect our members without high speed Intern...

Re: 982 hard to get running
If you got the coil on ebay I'd contact the seller. Normally they'll take returns on there for a wrong item or send the right one. One of the main reasons I still use ebay and amazon. As for selling the motor (if that's what you meant), I put a Mag 18 in a restoration of a 982 before I had this 982....

Re: IH 782 refurb
27 tractors. I forgot all about a couple 169s I redid some time ago. Some were just tear down and repaint. Some pretty well or mostly restored. Mike, is the 29th a plow day? Even if I went to one I'd bring the 982. This one's too untested to go plow with after being through everything Made some good...

Re: IH 782 refurb
It's all coming right together now with very little time spent on it. Even these pictures from yesterday don't show all progress. Got almost all the wiring on and tucked back in where it goes, all the motor linkage and parts back together and ready, the new filters on, cut the firewall a bit for the...

Re: IH 782 refurb
By the way, how does the oil pressure light wire up? I'd assume power comes to one wire on the light and the ground goes from the light to the sensor on the motor. Is this correct thinking?

Re: IH 782 refurb
Thanks guys. This one was red from the start. IH built. It's my 7th x82 series I've done and only doing it because it was apart and one I keep. I assure you NONE of them were painted yellow and white of those 7, and two of them were yellow and white before I got done with them. I don't consider the ...

IH 782 refurb
I sold my built 782 years ago and coincidentally bought a 682 to replace it weeks later. I finally got to converting it to hydro lift and figured while it was apart I'd repaint my last unpainted tractor. I also bought an oil pressure sensor and light and going to put it on as well as a remote oil fi...

Good deal, glad you got it figured out. I don't care what anyone says, those Onans are unbeatable. And mine has a much newer replacement Performer motor too

http://www.cubcadetcollectors.com/forum/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=147 Don't go at it blind. This should be the right link... I believe. While it's out, a couple axle seals and cork gasket on the pump SHOULD do the trick. With all that fresh looking oil going back, it's possible the seal at the...

Re: Narrow frame rear hitch
I don't know what implement availability is for you there but if building something from scratch why not a small category 0 rear hitch? If you plan to use the hitch you have to build both the 3 pt and a Brinly adapter to use sleeve hitch implements. Category 0 parts are probably widely available any...

Re: Narrow frame rear hitch
There's a block that bolts to the slot in the lift arm inside the frame. Been years since I've been in one of those looking at it but I believe the lift bar has to be on the block before you attach it because it won't clear the frame and slide on the block. I borrowed this photo from partstree to sh...

Re: 782 fuel pump
In my opinion they last a really long time and aren't complicated. I'd just replace it back to original. Are you sure it's the fuel pump though? Also might be worth taking the fuel pump apart and making sure those two "valves" in there are tight. I've had them pop loose and give me fits before

Re: 982 hard to get running
I do recall once someone ran mine out of gas and it sucked in dirt and wouldn't run good. Carb looked clean as could be but after blowing out all ports in it the 982 ran perfect again.

Re: 982 hard to get running
Do you have a spark tester or way to check spark quick since one plug looks new? If both sides get spark maybe a valve not letting fuel in or something but I'd check that last after exhausting all other options. It's been years but I thought mine had a high idle screw as well on the carb. Either way...

Re: 982 hard to get running
You've said before carb adjustment did nothing. If you adjust the carb and the motor doesn't change how it runs you almost certainly have a carb issue. Is it the adjustable or non-adjustable carb? I remember mine had a replacement non adjustable and I ended up rebuilding the old one to replace it du...

Re: cub cadet 682 no spark
Is that the original paint on that thing? My 682 was a one owner with 200 something hours and NOS tiller and none of it looked that nice. It's apart to get hydraulics and I guess repainted since it's already torn down.

Re: cub cadet 682 no spark
Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but if power runs to the negative side of the coil then it has to be the points not grounding it, correct? Dumb question but I'm running out of ideas. Have you double checked power running through the wire from the negative side of the coil to the points? Put the test ...

Re: Cub Cadet 106 Hood Bracket
Looks like the pto lever had a bronze button on it that took a beating. Your front pto on the motor is likely in need of rebuild seeing that and much easier to do before putting the motor in. At the very least I doubt it's adjusted right or the pto lever was out of adjustment. Either way that button...

Re: cub cadet 682 no spark
Without being there hard to say. Sounds like you covered the bases. With the points cover off, turn the engine and see if it's sparking at the points. I guess it could be grounding out if the wire to the points was touching the cover or something. Have you put the test light to the negative side of ...

Re: Cub Cadet 106 Hood Bracket
I went ahead and pulled these out for a comparison because despite 1" sounding minimal, the tires look way different side by side. Should make for a much more informed decision vs just measurements. They're lined up in the front by the way

Re: Cub Cadet 106 Hood Bracket
Okay, I got these measured this morning. My 682 has 23x10.50-12 goodyears measuring 9.5 wide and 23.5 tall. My 73 has 23x8.50-12 goodyears that are 22 tall and 8 wide. The 982 has 26x12-12 new Deestones measuring 10.5 wide and 24.5 tall. These are all approximate as I'm measuring around mounted whee...

Re: Thoughts on Lo Boy
I've had a few of those LoBoys myself and they're neat and fun to drive when fixed up but I've never been able to get more than about $1300 out of a completely fixed up mechanically and good cosmetically unrestored unit. Just no resale on them it seems so I stopped messing with them. I at least like...

Re: cub cadet 682 no spark
Did you verify the points are actually opening, maybe adjustment or bad points plunger/rod? Is it the same coil as the other engine? Is the negative side of the coil going on and off with the test light while cranking? Seems about the only things it could be that I can think of. Except something gro...

Re: Cub Cadet 106 repower question
I'm with Mr Positivity  If you're getting into the Cub hobby you'll soon run across the attachments that were available for them. Mowers, sickle mower, chipper, tiller, snowblower, and much more. As fun as it would be to build, you'll lose the function to run any of these attachments. I have ma...
