Re: When to engage PTO on a 782
Rich, it sounds like you are doing the right things fuel wise. Shine a flashlight into the fuel tank. Where the fuel outlet is there should be a "fuel sock", just a conical screen over the fuel outlet. On my 1872 I pulled that grommet assembly out from the bottom and cut the screen off (after draini...

Re: When to engage PTO on a 782
No, there is no need to engage the pto when it isn't needed to operate something. The roughness and surging are usually indicating a lean fuel condition. The roughness and surging are typical symptoms of a partially clogged carb from bad gas. The surging in particular indicates a lean condition, whi...

Dan - Anyone giving you an answer is guessing. Electrical troubleshooting is a combination of understanding how it is wired and using a multimeter to work through the schematic. Generally the culprit is some form of a bad connection. Any connections that are suspect need to be cleaned then have diel...

Well, that sucks. Sorry you now have an unexpected spring chore. Post up the repair pics when you get into it. Because I know, you are going to get into it! Hopefully a clean break without any shrapnel inside.

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
Ooh... I want to guess. Looking at the direction of the mud trails, I'm thinking that left side was down in the muddy ditch. The only way to keep moving was to let the tires spin. With an open differential that left wheel down in the slippery ditch was throwing mud up forward onto everything. That's...

Re: Loader Mutt Continues...
Hmmm... I'm certainly a fan of "overbuilt", but the gussets are quite thick for the application. Since we like rear ballast, that's not bad, but without beveling you'll never get weld that matches the gusset strength. I also don't remember how thick the axle tubes are, but I'd also be concerned abou...

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
It hurts to think of the number of tractors that get scrapped for such a simple part failure. Fortunately yours is owned by someone man enough to make it right! But I'd of definitely pulled the snowblower off first!

For the reasons you mention, I don't much like lockers either. They come in suddenly and don't have any modulation. The impact loading can be off the charts if an inexperienced user applies at the wrong time. Digital, all or nothing. Too easy to brake something. To me the ultimate is limited slip an...

What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)
Ok, this thread was originally a fun idea, but I think it fizzled because "The Rules" stifled conversation. And we need more conversation, not less, so "The Rules" are gone! So, this is morphing into the more traditional "What I did with my tractor today", but try to at least start your story with a...

Dave - Great write up and detailed project pics. Even for guys that wouldn't try something so custom, it advances their view of what's possible with some ingenuity. I've done these types of project write-ups with pics, and it can be tedious, so thanks for taking the time to detail it. As an engineer...

I have to say that I'm shocked and disappointed that after Dave's appeal that we've only had a few donations. $250 a year is chump change split among all of us. There's at least 15 of us that are semi-regular posters here, and many more lurkers. All of us are getting something out of this forum, or ...

Re: What do we do????
PS - Maybe rather than "clearing out previous year's history", have a section at the top that shows who donated "This Year" and how much. I think it's important for members to realize how much (or how little) has been donated for the current year against current costs.

Re: What do we do????
I'd start by clearing out the donation history at the bottom of the Board Index from previous years. (Keep dag's info, he just donated today, and anyone else that donates before you get to clearing out the previous years info). This way members can see who is current with helping. No reason to keep ...

Re: Custom build 1772 Diesel
Dave - Looking great! Good job on the fuel tank persistence. It's worth it when it all comes together. I paid Ray dearly for a rear PTO and I've only ever used it twice, with the 442 tiller I "just had to have". I've toyed with the idea of developing a way to have a 3-point snowblower, but just so m...

Mike - I have a very steep driveway and I still only spin with chains when I'm being too aggressive, more usually on braking going downhill after the driveway is clear. There is not a tire choice that works instead of chains. 2 link chains with turfs are just the only way to go. Just make sure you d...
