Re: Supers look cool...

All that tin is what directs the cooling air around the cylinders. It will not cool properly without it. All the tin on the engine is Kohlers. The muffler shroud tin is Cubs; you need that to keep the heat moving out the front as well.

Re: 2005 Cub Cadet 5252

Ron - Several years ago I followed many discussions about the 5000 series on tractorbynet.com. What I recall is that all the real big problems were with the four wheel drive models. The front axle just wasn't strong enough for the tractor, especially with loader use. I don't remember any widespread ...

David - If it will run halfway decent once it gets started, I would start by adding MMO and Stabil to every gas can when you buy gas for it. You want to get the Stabil in as soon as you pump the gas to slow the degradation immediately. Also, since it sits, don't keep any gas stored for it; bring fre...

Re: Hello,I am a Newbie,I need help on a 1450

The muffler thing is definitely a personal cost/benefit decision. For myself, my time is limited, and I shy away from used parts that are difficult to verify, like a muffler. I don't need to be replacing the same part two years from now. I consider this an investment in equipment and I like the sati...

Re: broken bolt on 2072

If it is welded, I would grind off the weld, then you should be able to punch it out, or perhaps use a C-clamp with a socket as a press to avoid beating things with a hammer. I would then weld a new bolt in to make it like it was. If you don't have a way to weld a new one while the tower is in place...

Steve - Great job on downloading all the owner's manuals. I didn't reply in your post, because I didn't want to clog it up with a comment.

Moderators: Is the manual section set up for pdf's, or should Steve's topic become a sticky, at least temporarily?

Re: Spike or Plug style ??

The spike style is really just to leave a little cut for seed and fertilizer to fall into. The plug is the only one that is truly going to help with compacted soil. If you have clay soil, you need the plug type even more. I too have heavy clay soil that can become like concrete. The directions with ...

Re: help no gas flowing through carb

Scott is giving you an initial adjustment for the idle bleed. You can't final adjust the idle fuel bleed until the engine is fully warm. With the throttle set at idle, adjust the bleed from the initial setting Scott gave you for the highest engine rpm the bleed will give you, then open (CCW) up 1/8 ...

Re: help no gas flowing through carb

Go to a parts look-up site like http://www.messicks.com or http://www.partstree.com and look up the carb assembly for the 2182. The parts sites show a good exploded diagram that will show you how the parts are arranged. The "thing on the bottom of the bowl" is a fuel shut off solenoid. You should ha...

Re: 2182 with low fuel light on but full of fuel

Whatever you use, make sure it is marked and rated as fuel line. I have used plain Tygon in industrial uses that I know would not be suitable for fuel line. If it is rated for gasoline fuel you should be ok. Most good hose usually has the specification type marked right on the hose.

Re: 2182 with low fuel light on but full of fuel

Yes, the low-fuel sending units can go bad. My 1861 needed a new sending unit, replaced it. My 2182 worked erratically and had a piece of errant rubber caught in the float cup; worked fine after removing the obstruction. (So now I have an extra new sending unit on the shelve for when they go NLA...)...

Re: questions about a 2182

Mike - People generally have their own favorite brands for plugs, just like motor oil. I happen to like Autolite, so if you want them, it is an Autolite #3924. I just put a set in my 2182, and it runs great. Before you are too quick to rebuild the carb, make sure all else is ok. The carb is often bl...

Good advice on disconnecting the battery to find the short. Once you start moving wires around, you might make the short worse and melt...

This should be a Cat 0 tiller that runs off the rear pto of a Super. The reason for the title is that the pto speed is 2000 rpm for the Cat 0 design.

Well, that's what Cub calls it. In my mind, it is the grille housing. At any rate, I bought a brand new one last summer for the 2182, and finally got to installing it. The new one (#759-3773) is the later style that includes the sealed beam lamps and lamp retaining hardware in the package. It did no...

When you do go for parts, Cub was kind enough to use the Bush Hog part number with a "BU" prefix. Remove the "BU" and order the Bush Hog number from a Bush Hog dealer for much less money. Much of what Cub shows as NLA is still available from Bush Hog.

Yeah, the 442 looks to be the same as the RTS tiller on the Bush Hog site, but there are some differences. Mainly, the current version is made so that it can be offset, and they call for the chain on the side to be lubed by packing the cover with grease about halfway up. As the Cub unit is stationar...
