Re: Loader Mutt Continues...

Dave - Yes, pictures please! You know this a bit of "short attention span theater" here, we need pictures to keep our attention! Man, good luck with the spirol pin, they can be terrible, especially if they break and shift the holes out of alignment. Oof... Good luck with the knee as well, I've been ...

Re: K 241 running badly

I think dag was mentioning blue threadlocker for the mounting bolts. Threadlocker on the bolts would be fine, but probably not needed if properly torqued. Also, as Ken says, gasket sealant at carb base should never be needed and is generally a bad idea. Too many small holes nearby that could pick so...

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)

I just noticed Clank's pun with his picture. I often get wearied of puns, this one deserves a kudo! Nice pic, makes one yearn for summer. Weird to look at a pic of bright green grass right now, it's just all brown and grey here. Winter, bleh. Winter's a Humbug!

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

Ken, I hope you got the melting before the wind! Mild winter, so we have even less posts on the forum than usual. Ken's driveway battles are like our protracted "Super Bowl" here on the forum, but we haven't even had much of that yet! I suspect Ken is ok with that... :D I hope all are well.

Ken - Congratulations! Just make sure you have "a reason to be" everyday. So many retire and end up falling apart because they don't have purpose anymore. Somehow I don't think you'll have that problem1

Wow, are the welds also broken away from the auger shaft? The spirals are too far away from the gear box.

Re: 450 Auger Bushings

Ok, the slant of the scrolls struck me as odd at first, I'm not in "snow mode" yet. I'm going to blame them being bent up as throwing me off!

I'm skipping the defect of being bent up, as that's not a show stopper. I guess the lack of shear bolts is an important detail.

Re: 450 Auger Bushings

Hi, Paul, nice to see you. I can confirm, it is a bronze Oilite bushing (plain bearing). As Dave says, oil is impregnated when it is made, no additional lube required. That said, you won't hurt anything giving it a squirt of oil once a year. They do tend to hold up well in this type of low speed app...

Re: And I came home with two dollars

I certainly respect wanting to keep original, but on my newer stuff I tap out the frames to 1/4"-28 and use new flange head screws. Just a little bigger diameter and finer pitch thread seems to hold up real well in the frame and I like having standard hardware. Although slightly larger they fit with...

Ken - Google the number without the "KH" prefix, just Google "Kohler 235603" and there seems to be more than a few left on the market to purchase, even including Amazon. Seems there is a later version with an "S" suffix as well. (The KH prefix is applied by Cub to show who the manufacturer is since ...

Paul - Likely what is happening is that the governor is trying it's best to do its job to counteract a lean condition. The governor attempts to keep a constant rpm. In a lean condition, the engine starts to lose rpm, so the governor compensates by opening the carb throttle more, so the engine then r...

Justin, Welcome! The AGS 2160, I'd have to say move that along. From what I remember, it's a "backwards clutch" system. You have to fully depress the pedal to get full engagement of the clutch. Unfortunately, human nature was to not push the pedal down all the way and/or to use it as a speed control...

Re: When to engage PTO on a 782

Rich, it sounds like you are doing the right things fuel wise. Shine a flashlight into the fuel tank. Where the fuel outlet is there should be a "fuel sock", just a conical screen over the fuel outlet. On my 1872 I pulled that grommet assembly out from the bottom and cut the screen off (after draini...

Re: When to engage PTO on a 782

No, there is no need to engage the pto when it isn't needed to operate something. The roughness and surging are usually indicating a lean fuel condition. The roughness and surging are typical symptoms of a partially clogged carb from bad gas. The surging in particular indicates a lean condition, whi...
