Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
The 'pounding' you refer to is what the driveline engineers call 'service factor'. A single cylinder diesel has the 'worst' service factor, while an inline eight-cylinder steam engine, or a DC electric motor... or a hydroelectric turbine would have the 'best'... the 'pounding' goes away as the power...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Ken, the secret lies right before you... It's not a 'hard' shaft. It's collapsible... right in the middle... with a U-joint at both ends. I've offset the motor (actually, skewed it to one side slightly) to provide good clearance of the steering column, and also position the hydraulic pump and exhaus...

So which engine is it, and was the cause of the low oil pressure? That IS a sad situation... a friend's mother has fallen apart due to rapid-onset Alzheimer's, before they took the magic key fob, she would leave the house at 2:15am, and drive to an appointment three and a half days early... then for...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Ken said: "It's been said many times that half of all gear drive Cubs that have been parked behind the shed are because of clutch issues, I go along with that." Kinda obvious... that if you say it, then that statement is true, right? I'll give that statement some merit though- and not just for...

Re: Cub 1450 gas tank leaking a bit at the shut off valve
Well Dag... I got my shutoff and bushing put together today... it was really easy... yank the old out, clean up the plastic, put the new bushing in, a drop of oil on the shutoff barb, shove it in... and done. Dunno if it seals, haven't mounted the tank yet... too busy pulling wire and assembling con...

Just got back from an assignment, to find a bit of a snow drift across the driveway... right where Ann backs out of her parking space in front of the garage ( Mutt was sitting in it's 'outdoor' parking space, so I flipped up the seat to knock the snow off, hopped on, and fired up the Honda. I...

Re: Cub 1450 gas tank leaking a bit at the shut off valve
I ordered one of these kits (the link was through Rich Patton)... arrived while I was on a road assignment... looks pretty good. I'll be mounting it on the QL tank tomorrow, then putting some gas in for a test... and if it's okay, emptying the WF (temporary) tank, putting the QL tank, and hookin' it...

Re: Loader Build Help
Well, I'm both surprised and relieved that you've got an iron-beam that doesn't have V-notches worn in 'em. if you're satisfied that your axle is strong enough to handle the full weight of the bucket load, PLUS the full load fo the loader attachment PLUS the full weight in the bucket (because once y...

Triangulating the axle isn't a bad idea, but it isn't necessary. The applications where triangulation is most necessary, is when the center of the wheel hub axis is substantially LOWER than the axle pivot point. Dale, I'll second Mike's note on that... and for THREE reasons- First, is the knuckle on the left side... Second, is the knuckle on the right side... and third... is the cast iron beam in between... Hmmm... Jeff hasn't checked in here since October... but then again, nobody answered. The 109, 129,149 etc., are all '1x9'... aka 'wide-frame' models, the 'stock' motors being all Kohler K-series single... the K241 (10hp) in the 109, the K301 (12hp) in the 129, and the K341 (14hp) in the 149... and ...

I guess it would help with general understanding... this machine used to be my only piece of 'heavy' equipment... back when we lived down on the river, and it was handy there. up here on the farm, even though we don't FARM, it's one of many machines on hand. Re: Cub 125
Btw... the hydro pumps rarely fail... as in... never. Sundstrand 15U is capable of handling about three times' the load that a Cub Cadet could ever present to it in 'stock' form... so as long as there's fairly-clean fluid coming to it, and you're not being shot at by someone with .50 API, it will ou...

A 125 with snowplow and chained tires is worth about two-and-a-half hours of your daily life, and three trips to the chiropractor a month, every month for the rest of the winter... Add some wheel weights and a log chain, it's worth 20-30 bucks for each car you pull outa a snowbank, a hundred for eac...
