The biggest difference is that Norman goes through them to be sure they work and tries to source the better parts instead of pot luck.

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics
Those V-Bar chains will do a real number on any hard surfaced driveway. Great on ice or gravel though. My machine is still sitting in the shop. The first snow we got here was about 2" and that's not even enough to bother moving it. The next was a bit more but the wind got into it and other than a dr...

Re: Reference resource collections?
Lew, Yep I've pulled a lot of info off the MTD site. I have the latest paper manual as well. it reminds me of the Haynes manuals that cover an entire series of vehicles where they show you a teardown of a truck with a 4 cylinder and say the V6 version "is similar". I should have bought the local dea...

Re: Reference resource collections?
Dave, yeah that is the issue I'm running into, renaming the files. Currently I've been doing it by using a description, Like Original Service Manual Then the IH, Cub, or MTD publication number. I downloaded most of what's on this site and a few others including MTD but even then I'm betting there is...

Re: Reference resource collections?
With the other site it was both. A thumb drive that Larry would update as he collected material and a website where he shared a lot of it as well. Just thinking about how many times things have come and gone on the MTD site concerning our brand. I would love to see them put up a better site that had...

Reference resource collections?
I was just wondering if this would be something wanted or considered for those who collect or own Cub Cadets. I have been a member of the Economy group for years and one of the members there (Larry Goss RIP) created a huge repository of information on those tractors and variants. Things like service...

Re: Steering whines
The nut is left hand thread, VERY easy to damage them if you don't know that. It's job is to keep you from unscrewing the adjuster and then needing to take things apart to get to it. Once you have it apart I like to add a new vent to the case. The factory ones never seem to vent fast enough when fil...

Re: Anyone ever split the hydraulics?
That is one worry I have, was actually looking at the difference between the super three point and the standard, the supers were set farther back to allow for the PTO parts, If I used one like that but removed all the bits related to the PTO I could make a spacer from aluminum that adds almost 3 inc...

Re: Steering whines
1864 uses the same pump for lift and steering. While it is running does the whine change when you use the lift? Does it get worse when the lift is fully at the end of travel up or down? A stuck relief valve can make them sing pretty good.

Post it here in the for sale section with some pictures, especially the scrolls and working parts. Being it's off a Super it has the drop plates and the longer belt. It will fit on the regular garden tractors by swapping the belt and removing the drop plates though. $400.00 isn't a bad starting pric...

Re: Anyone ever split the hydraulics?
Thanks Dave, I figured I could add a selector but it's already looking like a web in there, three valves, two cylinders, power steering and probably a rear set of ports. Of course all that didn't stop me from mocking up a spare pump that could run off the stub shaft that would run the pto, just to s...

Re: Snow blade
The lift lever on a 782 is a part of the tractor itself and it will not fit the rockshaft on the 1864 anyway as the 1864 is a larger shaft. Instead take a look at Xtreme Motorworks part PN# CC-86-002, it wokse with both blades and blowers and other attachments as well, like a johnny bucket or other ...

Anyone ever split the hydraulics?
So I'm in the process of making steel lines for the super, I have three valves on the dash already. I am keeping the mid lift as built. I'm working on stuffing another cylinder in the tail to run the rear three point as an independent part, the third valve at the moment goes the the front ports. I w...

Re: Snow blade
They can be hard to find as it's hard to tell them apart without measuring the ears on the hanger. It's normally easier to just drop the hanger to make it fit. But there is the wanting and looking section below.

Re: Snow blade
As has been said the hanger is different due to the axle, but it's an easy modification to make it fit. The blade itself is the same. All that needs to be done is to cut the front ears off the hanger then put them into the QA brackets and put the rest under the tractor. With the rear ears on the han...

Wow Sorry to hear about the folks getting ill. I'm not sure if I've had it or not as the drugs they have me on give me a permanent headache and runny nose along with a sore throat. Been tested 4 times and they say no, but the tests are somewhat a joke as the swabs won't show if you've had it, only i...

Blowers work fine on gravel - once the ground has frozen. Last year it didn't get really cold until after we had snow on the ground, I shaved gravel and dirt humps off and blew them all over the place!

Re: 1225 with bad transaxle??
If you can push it easily with it in gear the first thing I would check is the belt and the tensioner. If the belt is good and the tensioner (clutch) is working and it rolls easily but not under power then it's likely there is a problem. Could be a sheared key or a bad axle not engaging the wheel.

Re: 1872 freshen up burning oil
Reading through there it seems you only ran it lightly not really worked it. Take it out and work in hard, get it up on the governor and keep it there for a while. See if the rings seat in and the oil stops burning. Also keep in mind that air cooled engines will burn synthetic oil more than conventi...

Hydro controls
Anyone ever look at the idea of replacing the older hydro controls used with the newer design used on the later Cyclops machines. I repaired the worn out control on the 2284 and tightened up all the pieces and the newer design still seems to be smoother and more predictable. I just tore down anther ...

Re: Boom goes the belt !!!
The 756-3047 OE pulley for the deck is 5 1/8 inch at the outer lip with the new belt riding at about 1/4 inch inside the lip so at probably 4.75 or so true diameter. The 317s pulley 756-3053 is just shy of 5" at the lip and the belt rides at about 3/16" down on it. The lower pulley is 4.75 or so on ...

Re: Boom goes the belt !!!
I added the pulley first and didn't see much of a change in terms of clearing the grass with the stock blades, swapping to the gators though made it a different machine entirely. It cuts like a demon now. The new set up lets me run the tractor faster as well. In nice dry grass the stuff flies about ...

Re: Is magnum 17 HP same as magnum 18 HP
1720 is one of the lawn tractor machines. Should have a vertical shaft Magnum in it. It's an 18 HP but tagged as 17 because Cub Cadet turned it down a bit. It is rated at 17 hp at 3400 rpm, but if you reset it to run at 3600 rpm it magically becomes 18 hp. It's just like the method CC used on the 15...

Update on the deck. Installed the 317 drive pulley on it, put the Gator G5 blades on it and -- It is the best cutting deck I have ever run ! Moves grass out like it's blowing snow, easily throwing the clippings a good 4 feet even in heavy wet weeds. Did discover two cons with this set up, you need a...

Re: Parts and where you buy them and what do you keep as spares?
Joe, I try to use Cub when possible, but for some items they are $$$$ compared to other sources for comparable parts. It would be different if I was buying a Cub part that was made in the US and was known to be better, but when the pulley I needed was the exact same part as the Stens item but twice ...

Parts and where you buy them and what do you keep as spares?
So like many here I have a few Cub Cadets and like everything they do need parts from time to time. I used to have a great dealer just up the road who stocked parts for just about everything from originals up to current models and had a used section of equipment that had a bit of everything. He's go...

Re: Boom goes the belt !!!
Howdy Tom, Yeah I had to dig out the belt before I moved much and it wasn't any warmer than normal. It was a weird failure as even the exterior weave was in good shape, only one small wear spot along the edge where it rubs on the deck if the lift is fully up. If it wasn't for the area that was torn ...

Re: Boom goes the belt !!!
Think I found it, shock loading. The deck doesn't clear out the tall grass that well and once it loads up the blades start trying to cut it all 203 times and it was causing the belts to fall into a harmonic pattern. That coupled with the extra loading stripped the belt. I went over the failed belt a...
