Re: Stripped spark plug in head

Matt, We had a K161 in a 71 that we used to work on for a guy. He used it really hard and mowed like 2 acres and this little 71 was his only mower. It may even be the 71 that my Dad now owns. Anyhow this guy was bringing this tractor in every couple months with a blown head gasket. Each time we sand...

Re: 451 Snow Blower and a 2072 tractor

Eden, Apparently CCC never offered the 50" deck on the tractors with the larger PTO. I looked at the parts list for the 54" deck and it has the input pulley on the center spindle just like the 50" does. So if the lower sheave is the same diameter then it should work. If you have the rebuildable spin...

Re: Stripped spark plug in head

Jess, That is why all the plug manufacturers recommend to go by their application listings rather than cross referencing. Sometimes when you cross-reference they can jump heat ranges because some companies don't offer the same heat ranges as others. Ben, I know a lot of guys warm the engine, then le...

In my opinion the best way to post the pics is to upload it rather than hosting from another site. I have noticed on a lot of other forums I have run into that the pics were no longer available on the host site.

You could also splice it with a piece of sheetmetal. Put sheetmetal on both sides of the break and attach it with pop rivets or screws. I don't think any kind
of glue or epoxy will stick to it very well.

Here is what I use; 114054[1].jpg Seems to work great on all the gas engines I have tried it on. It is even smart enough to know if its on a magneto equipped briggs or a battery ignition Kohler. I also bought a cheap photo tach on ebay for the diesels. Someone on the old site found them on there a w...

Re: 451 Snow Blower and a 2072 tractor

I just had a phone conversation with my Dad and this subject came up. As many of you know my Dad and I both worked at several different CC dealerships over the years including one owned by our family. Anyhow, Dad was working for a dealer in the period when the change was made to the larger PTO and h...

I'm still selling autographed copies of the book I co-authored with Hank Will; Farmall F-series collectors originality guide. If you are restoring or are interested in IH tractors built between 1923 and 1939 this book has a ton of information to help you restore it to original factory condition. The...

I'm sure there are some folks who don't like the new format. I'm sure there are also plenty of guys who haven't heard about us yet as well.

One thing I have found with the new format, is that I can keep up with the new posts while spending much less time doing it.

Bryan,
The 1782 was built both before and after the change to the larger clutch. Most of the other models started and ended with the pto changeover. So if you want the larger clutch, order the one for the higher serial #.

Ernest,
I didn't check with Bieler's yet. The other place I was talking about is Fast Track trailers in the old ambulance garage. I stopped and looked at theirs one day
and wasn't real impressed. They seemed pretty light.

I did stop at Hostettlers one day but they weren't open.

The power angle cylinder is the same on both blades so if you find a Haban blade without power angle, you can switch the cylinder.

Re: Fired up the 2082

Ken, What all did you do to it? On a fresh rebuild I like to put them under a good load by letting the grass grow tall then mowing it fairly fast. It is a good idea to vary the load as well. This forces the rings against the cylinder wall and helps them seat in. I run that way for 5 hours then chang...

Re: 129 Engine Repair Help Needed

Jerry, If you want it to run for a long time, I would replace the rod, the rings and the piston pin clips. I would measure everything while it's apart to see if it's within specs. Then if it is out of spec, replace what needs replacing. If your budget is really tight, only do the rod, but it may use...

Re: Mounting Model 451 Snowblower on Super

I guess having multiple tractors is why I would lean towards trying to change the pulley on the blower over changing the PTO clutch. If I had 2 or 3 tractors with 5/8" PTO pulleys I would go that route so that all my tractors and attachments would be interchangeable. Otherwise, you'd have to dedicat...

I haven't worked with any of these snow blowers for quite a few years. I remember the basic setup on them from when I installed them at the dealerships. I'm just throwing this out for discussion; What about putting a smaller pulley on the 451 to speed it up? The idler pulleys may have to be moved in...

Re: Plowing with a 125

It will also depend on whether or not you have the slotted lift straps on your Brinly hitch. If you have the slotted ones they will allow the plow to float so you can let the lift handle locked in a notch. If you have the straps with holes, leave the lift handle float. As long as the soil isn't too ...

Matt, John,
You are correct, it was the rag joint coupler that I drilled. And I had forgotten that the CV couplers were hard. In fact I think they are made from powdered metal. You can't weld to them either.

Re: More help on my 1872

I don't know that drilling the shaft is necessary. I have done two that I just drilled the coupler and put two set screws in at 90deg to each other. One of those is my loader and it is holding up well. Once the shaft is in place, it can't go anywhere. My loader has a hybrid driveshaft. The rear half...

Ike, There are two different axles used on the Cyclops models. The early ones used an axle that was the same height as the earlier WF and 82 series. The later one raised the front end about 2". Both can be considered "Super Steer" axles because they both steer much tighter than the earlier models. T...

You might try a web search for Katz (spelling??) or Zerostart to see if either of them make one that will work. I believe the hose size is 1".

You could probably also plumb in a tank type circulating heater.
