Farmall Super-A proper oil level

I thought I'd check the oil level in my Super-A yesterday. I opened the lower test cock and no oil came out. So I added oil until it did - about a half quart. It could not have been down a lot because in February I changed the oil and filter. Today while using the tractor it started smoking terribly. I immediately figured it was overfilled with oil. I drained some using the lower test cock. Checking the owner's manual it says the oil should be added until it comes out of the upper test cock. That means it must not have been overfilled. Tomorrow I will fill it until it comes from the upper test cock. What the heck happened here anyway making it smoke like that?

Well definitly you need to fill the engine until it comes out the UPPER check cock!!.... if it gets below the lower check its into the dangerous zone... level should be between the 2 somewhere.
As far as it smoking.... possibly a cloged crankcase breather?
sounds more like it needs a S and P kit!

Same procedure on the F series and even the Regular. Two test points and a drain.
