Well I have caught the farmall bug so I am looking at getting a Farmall m series tractor and I have some questions.

What is the difference between super m and m ?

What are the m deisels like do they have lots of known problems ?

Any info is much appreciated.

for the most part the supers in any class means more HP to some degree or another.
The diesels are a bit particular cause not only do you have the injectors and pump to deal with but also a mag or distributor and plugs and a carb.... so theres more to mess with when they dont run. However they are fairly desirable and harder to find. We had one here in our auction that was used for pulling and it was whiped! she would run on gas ok but had lots of problems on diesel.

A Super M is 1/8" bigger bore although most straight Ms have been changed to the bigger sleeves and pistons by now. The Super M has disc brakes compared to band brakes on an M. The Super M has faster 2nd 3rd and 4th gear. Some of the later Super Ms had live hydraulics. The Super M was a transitional model that went through many changes from beginning to end.

The diesels are known for cracked cylinder heads and can be challenging to find engine parts for. They aren't for the faint of heart or wallet.

The Super MTA is a later, different model than the Super M. Technically the TA was an option so it was possible to buy a Super MTA without the TA and it would still be a Super MTA and not just a Super M. The SMTA used a longer clutch housing and the tractor was longer overall. They also had live hydraulics and independent PTO. They are fairly rare and will bring pretty big $$$ compared to an M or Super M.
TA problems are fairly common but rebuilt units are available. Again it adds to the expense.

I saw a Super MTA diesel bring $19,000 at an auction back in 2006. At the same auction a Super MTA diesel high crop brought $47,500.
