Plow tractor motor

Here's where you can post your Cub Cadet based specials. Actually, if it's cool and not Cub based, post it anyway!

Plow tractor motor

Post by bruce s »

I maybe opening a can of worms here but , I 'm building a cub with mainly ground engaging implaments in mind . It will be some thing like a superGT with hydro lift an manual tranny . My question is , do I want to use a 20H.P. comand or a 20H.P. mag for a motor ? Thanks in advance Bruce S. :beer:

Bruce,

Have some fun with it and build up a nice Command about 25 hp and custom exhaust and some other bells and whisltes if you have the money. The commands sound great and have plenty of power to have fun with. The pullers are making all kinds of hop up parts and as long as you don't go too extreme you should have a long lived engine.

How about a 3cyl geo metro engine? All aluminum OHC liqid cooled 60 CI. They probably aren't any heavier than a Kohler and make 50hp. You would need to rig up some sort of governor but I think it would make a good project. Randy Taylor (toolman) was going to put one in a Cub years ago but I don't think he ever
got very far.

Todd I have thought about a geo engine . I could use a belt driven governor off of a combine . I'm not sure what I would do for the fuel injection.

Apparently the earlier Chevy Sprints were carbureted but the Metros must have all been injected. I'd say if someone is handy enough to put the engine in a garden tractor, they could probably adapt a carb to it as well. A Kohler #30 carb would probably
be big enough but I'm sure there are others that would work as well. A governor would probably still work with the fuel injection also.
This company sells them in both carb'd and injected versions for ultra-light aircraft;

I have thought about putting one in a pulling tractor.
