Vertical shaft kohler magnum to Horizonal??

Here's where you can post your Cub Cadet based specials. Actually, if it's cool and not Cub based, post it anyway!

Vertical shaft kohler magnum to Horizonal??

Post by tlaroy »

I know someone on the other site found that you could flip the vertical shaft to a horizonal magnum. something to do with the oil pickup near oil pump. I know someone with a bunch of vertical shaft magnums Twins. May need a replacement someday. Would like to try it. Thanks for any info. Tim

I've done this once. Personally I think you are better off using horizontal cases. The vertical cases have 10+ more holes drilled into them than the horizontal cases. I know a couple of them have to be plugged. i don't know what difference the other holes make. The other issues you'll run into is the pto end of the crank needs turned down to make a pto fit, the oil pickup is different, and the entire intake and exhaust systems are different. Other than that, everything interchanges. If you can find a set of horizontal series 2 crankcases, you can use those by plugging the holes for the points.

Thanks for the reply AJGross. I knew there was something to it. I may just get one anyway just to experiment.
