Removing an exhaust elbow

Post by nicky1 »

I have had pretty good luck removing those stubborn rusted in elbows by using an air die grinder and a carbide burr. Cut the elbow off an inch or so from the block and just grind a little trough across the inside of the thread area in a couple places. Just grind thru till the block threads show. Heat that area with a small brazing tip and turn it with a pipe wrench. The thin area will collapse and loosen it up.This way should not damage the block threads. Just make sure the valve is closed and vacuum out all chips.
