Hello everyone,
I actually joined over a year ago! but made my first post just tonight..
(this is actually my second post..I just made my first post asking about air filters)
Im Scot from Rochester, NY..
got into the hobby 3 years ago when I bought a 1971 Ariens snowblower,
which led to a rather extensive Ariens hobby webpage (link in my sig line)
Then I bought a 1964 Wheel Horse model 854 tractor this spring..
I waffled back and forth for a while between the Wheel Horse and a Cub Cadet for my first tractor..
I bought the Wheel Horse simply because I fell in love with the WH "Round Hoods"..and I was planning to do a full restore on it soon!
and the snowblower..but..interesting thing:
The Ariens snowblower is my one and only snowblower..im not going to restore it anytime soon, because it works great!
and I need it to work..
The Wheel Horse has turned into my main working lawn mower! it works great, and I need it to work!
and I can only restore *anything* in the summer months, because my garage isnt practical to heat in the winter..
So I cant restore the Wheel Horse while I also need it to work as a mower..
which leads me to..Looking for a Cub Cadet "Original" to become my first restoration project!
Assuming I dont get laid off from Kodak this month (about 50% likely) I plan to look for an Original (or a model 70 or 100) over the coming Summer..
(If I do get laid off, its going to be several years down the road..tractor restorations will instantly fall to the bottom of the priority list)
But anyway, I have been very interested in Cub Cadets for several years now, and even though I bought a Wheel Horse,
I still gotta have a Cub!

Welcome! Nice horse you got there. I will be visiting red square more when I go to have my horse redone. One of the few pics I have of my dad is on a wh. It took me a few years to find this, and Ive cut the grass with it a few times. I just cut close up around the house and trees, its like a big weed eater!
I liked you site nice good write up. The yard looks nice with the horse framed in the shot with the flag.

Scot, Welcome to the nuthouse...
If you want to take a L O N G drive there is a 100 that just popped up on Craigslist for the Utica area. Needs work but the asking price was I think $150.00 I almost thought about buying it myself but I have enough on my list already.

Re: Hello from Western NY
Hey everyone,
thanks for the welcome!
Steve, thanks for the heads-up on the Utica lead!
a *little* far, but not out of the question..
but unfortunately im not ready to look quite yet..have to wait on the job situation,
but if all goes well, I will be looking for an "original" this Spring & Summer..
Vince, nice WH collection!
glad to see im not the only one here who will be multi-brand!
(I intend to keep my collection quite small..just due to space constraints..
WH 854, (the one I already have) and I want to look for the Cub Cadet "original"..
and probably eventually a Cub Cadet model 100, and a Wheel Horse RJ58..
and that will probably be it..(or so I think right now!)
Scott, thanks for adding my link to the link collection! I will go and check it out right now..

You say that now, but next youll have a charger, the car not the tractor, 2 more Horses, a few greenies, and a few cubs. It a real adiction. at one point I had 22 cubs sitting in my yard. Now Im down to like 6 and the one wheel horse, and a go cart! LOL

but I really think limited space will work nicely to keep the collection in check..
I have one wall of the garage I can claim as my own, but thats it!
No parts machines will find a home out in the yard anywhere..
The wife and I have often said that if we move we both want "a smaller house and a much larger yard"..
if that happens, all bets are off!
