129 w/ QA-42a on gravel

Post by smiller »

Hello. I have a 129 with a QA-42A snowthrower. I am trying to use it on a 1500' gravel driveway. The skids on the snowthrower dig in to the gravel and with only a manual lift, I feel keeping it elevated using the lock will cause problems. Thinking about adding wheels to the QA-42. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I made some special mounts and put pneumatic hand truck tires from Harbor Freight on one I restored 10 or 15 yrs ago. It worked very well but I needed to add some wings to cover the new width.
The only other thing I could think of were massive shoes to give enough area.

I did smaller push mower type wheels for a few years. They worked good but ...I just ran a bolt through the side....If I were to do it again I would mount the bolt to the original skid shoes...This would b stronger.
I took the wheels off and now have these babies. With both setups...I try to keep it up about 1.5 inches. This seems to b enough for my stones. Give us some pics of your setup once you have it finished

Wow. They look good. I put switchbacks in my driveway and the standard skids just dig in. I seen where HD has 12" long ones but they are still only 1" wide. Did you make them?

Scott....I picked these up at a Cub salvage yard...They were about to b scraped. Looks like a piece of 2.5 " flat welded to the original skid shoes. Not sure if I got a chance to used them last year or not.....But they do look cool.
