1650 Motor Mounts

Post by ReicheP »

I want to replace the motor mounts and go back to the softer mounts. Is this the magic solution?

To me that is half the magic.....the other half is a front and rear cradle up grade.

Rear cradle was done when I got it. How important is the front?

I think one is better than nothing but both is best.....actually the front is the easier of the two.

When I overhauled my son's 1650, I moved the top rubber bushings to the bottom and bought 4 used top bushings from Ray Weaver and that 1650 is smooth. It was smoother than my 147 before I found the reason for the vibration on it. In fact I don't understand why there are so many complaints about the 1650 based on his.

Hello ALL
New guy to the site and want to share a little ISO mount experience with everyone.

I have both a 1650 and a 1450, I have had the 1650 for a few years, it belonged to my Dad, my brother inherited it, and later sold it. I was able to track it through 2 other owners and purchased it. When I got it I did the cradle mod and used some ebay mounts, I believe they are sway bar bushings. Anyway, after I did this, the thing shook me all night long. I ripped the original 40 year old flex disk out of it playing, 40 year old tractors shouldnt be doing wheelies. lol.
I left it in the garage for about a year. Now fast forward to last Christmas, I found a 1450 on the C list that had the aux hydraulics, so I couldn't resist. I tinkered with it enough over winter spring to see that it ran strong and didnt smoke. last week I repaired the trunion slot new spinngs & did the cradle mod. I used the old original style top mounts on the bottom and sway bushings on the top. Wow I couldn't believe how smooth that thing is. It really is a Quiet line. Very smooth and quiet.

So now I know the sway bushings in the 1650 are too hard, so I go out and loosen the bolts through the "ISO" bushings, I started the tractor and wow what a difference. I really didn't know if the 16hp shook that much worse than the 14 or not. The 16 with the mounts loosened is still not as smooth as the that 14,but I think I will be looking sor something a little softer. I now have the encouragement to experiment to find the Rubber mount that gives me the smoothness that can be achieved.

Thanks for looking, sorry to ramble.
Gary

Gary - Just noticed you made a first post with us in a thread that kind of disappeared...

Good to have you on board. You're in the right place for those QL machines. Maybe start a new thread with some pics of those things!

Thanks Tom, here is a picture of my boys. 74 1650, 78 1450, 69 125, not pictured a few other color tractors. I have to say that 1450 is a joy, smooth and quiet machine. The 1650 I am getting it there, just has a lot more rattles right now. But I am going to put original ISO mounts one day.
