This little 241 runs very strong. It started right up.

It has a very smooth idle and great throttle up response. No smoke at all, even when it first touched off. I did not touch the head or the valves.I ran it for just over a half hour. It's cool to get long dormant stuff going again.

Now what to do with this thing. I suppose it could make for a good stationary display at tomorrow's local engine show but right now I'm not in the mood to be lugging that lump around with me. So for now I ran it out of gas and stored it back inside.

The obvious answer is to find a gear drive with no engine.
Glad I could solve that sticky problem. :D

No more of those things for me now, I'm finding the one to be quite enough! The factory engine will be going back in and it's undergoing the same treatment that other one did.
I keep a special modified (bent) wrench around to get at those pesky carb bolts, it is really too handy of a thing to do without really.

This one cleaned up pretty easy. Over the years I've had a couple that were much worse. You might as well had been chasing a thread in a rock.

A little bit at a time. Yesterday I came home with this IH number stamped muffler.

This left hand cover bracket was missing and I picked this one up for a quarter.

Oddly enough he did not have the right side bracket so I suppose that it was meant to be.
The starter generator was in great shape. All it needed was a good dusting out. I gave it the end plate oil cup treatment while it was up on the bench.

It's the little bits that move a project forward.
New parts on order should be here within the week.

Pretty cool to get a long sitting motor up and running.
What are these motors selling for these days? I have a K161 off of my Cub 70 sitting around in my road most of the time. I should find a home for it.

Charlie who only knows for how long. It runs real strong. But it's only a boat anchor at this point.

The brown truck rolled into my drive today.
Of course the cats had to get their piece of the action in

Hey this one runs real strong. I ran it up the driveway a couple of times in third gear at full throttle and it liked it. No smoke either.
Everything doing what it's supposed to including the charging system. There are still issues to be sorted with the basket pulley, PTO, and exhaust however minor they may be.

All I want to do is wrap up the few remaining details on this project and put this thing to bed for the Winter turn key ready for Spring mowing but noo-
I had a bad time getting the front PTO on, it would have been so much nicer to work on when the engine was up on the bench but I was lacking the parts so the engine went back in without it installed. Wound up losing one of anti rattle springs in the process.
Once installed I busted two of the clutch fork buttons in a matter of a minute or two and those things are six bucks each now. It turned out that the clutch fork was also badly damaged and could not support the button properly. What a pain to get that fork out with the engine in place.
My Son welded up the fork and I machined both the pad and the hole. It came out good and works properly now without tearing off the button.

I have no need for a ball hitch so away it goes.

Then there's the matter with these 12-24 self tapping screws.

All the hardware stores carry 12-14 but 12-24? Nope.
Finished or not it's going into storage today-

I picked up this dual purpose hitch on line. It's very nicely made and well thought out.

Now I can pull around my wagon or move my 5 X 8 trailer if need be.
I'm glad tat I was able to track down those 12-24 self tapping bolts too- those threads in the frame were all in good shape and it would have been a shame to go altering that.
I sprayed down the machine with light oil and placed it's cover on, probably sometime around April I'll be putting it to use for real-

I certainly respect wanting to keep original, but on my newer stuff I tap out the frames to 1/4"-28 and use new flange head screws. Just a little bigger diameter and finer pitch thread seems to hold up real well in the frame and I like having standard hardware. Although slightly larger they fit within the tunnel cover flange with room to spare.

That tractor looks like a great find for you. Many people would've struggled with those issues and the tractor would have never been brought back to it's proper shape. Kudos, very nice work!

Nice save ken! I can't believe I never thought of that trailer hitch combo....that is great!
As for the "light oil"...you better clarify cause big Mike will be under his hood looking for the light oil dipstick when his turn signal lever gets sticky.

It's a nice hitch. Extreme carries them. Charlie does too.
I use the cheapie Wally World Super Tech spray can stuff. It's pretty darn good.
Tom, yes I was thinking about doing that. I checked every thread first and they were ALL intact. If just one had been stripped out I would have done that.
I was able to get them ordered in for a buck each so it made for a good save.
