eBay fraud?????????

Post by shultzie »

I saw this on ePay this morning and I don't believe it's for real. Serial #801?? It looks like the stamping was tampered with. The dash tower looks wrong. Is this what our hobby has gone to?? :x
I could be wrong. What do you guys think?

I can see the 3 as well. I don't know if it was tampered with or not. I had one here that had the same grinder marks on it right there but there was still a serial number stamped into that spot that looked factory stamped (9910). I had to believe it was factory or something because who else would stamp in those perfect numbers after grinding it off?

That tractor was at RPRU in WI and everyone told the owner(may not be the same owner) he was wrong. The pedestal would not have the steering adjustment slot at 8013.

I was perusing last night on epay and came across that same listing. I said to myself..."801...someone already owns 801..?" After a quick call this morning and the same response from him..."wait...I own 801!"....One of our own forum members has owned #801 for some time now. I'm not going to name names, will see if he posts. Looks like #8013 to me as well. I beat if you took a wire wheel and cleaned up some of that paint you would see the last digit better...still a four digit. Looking forward to seeing you guys in a couple weeks...Hope that noise maker doesn't have any hopes in running all night again.

Don't you love when people do this? Kinda like the 5018/501 deal from before. At least I think that's the numbers, but either way, not right!!

I sent him a question the other day and told him it looked like it was serial 8013. I also told him that I own serial 7881 and it doesn't have the steering adjustment in the pedestal. It is certainly possible that after 50 years the pedestal was changed, but the "3" in the serial number is clearly visible... He hasn't responded to me nor posted the question in his auction yet... I just hope someone doesn't buy it based on the expected 3 digit heritage.. It is still a nice tractor, but he shouldn't be advertising it the way he is. I also asked him about the engine serial and it looks like a PO painted over it... I'm not sure if it was done to conceal a repower, or the fact that it isn't a super low 3 digit...
Thanks...

I sent him an email thru ebay last night too.

Here's what I sent
Dear luredoctor,

It looks (appears ) like the stamped serial number is #8013. If you look at your pictures, it seems the paint is slightly thicker covering the fourth digit.

I'm all about giving the benefit of the doubt, but if I can see 4 digits in a picture, it's hard to believe it's not even more clearly visible in person... But, in his defense, if he wanted to deliberately deceive, he could have done a better job and made the "3" totally disappear... I don't know the history, but it's possible he was told it was serial 801 by a previous owner...
Thanks...

The fact that he won't reply to anyone tells me he knows it's not a 3 digit. Otherwise he would have changed his auction and informed at least one person that's questioned it.

I'm not even sure that its a 4 digit , looks like there might have been a digit before the 8 . It looks to me like theres a grind area in front of the 8 , could possibly be a 5 digit , hard to tell with the heavy coat of paint .

I had a good laugh a few years back with the chat gang when I posted pictures of a 3 digit that I was supposedly parting out . Needless to say I had some of the chat gang rather upset.
I was going to repost the pictures as an April fools joke , but felt I'd be run out of town on a rail . :o

Here a before and after picture of the serial number I photo cropped ....Rather nice job if I say so.
Only thing I have to say about buying anthing off ebay is : Buyer Beware !!!

Well that's what I thought.
Did you see the gas tank?? It is all rusty compared to the rest of it. It seems that this was put together by someone.
Maybe this guy thought he got the "801", but clearly not.
Maybe he's honest but with all the questions asked ( and I was one of them) and no reply. Smells kinda fishy. :dontknow:
Let's hope for the best.

I went to check once more on the tractor in question and now it says this

This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

Did he actually read the numerous emails?

Did Dave C emailing him stating he OWNS the actual #801 original?

Or did someone threated him with fraud?

You beat me to the "punch". I went to ebay to email him ( for a second time ) to ask him if he was blind or just blantantly wanting to rip somebody off.
