Carb adjustments
I adjusted the carbs on both my 102 and 125 they are running better but both pop after shut off, sounds like a 12 gauge shotgun going off. I have used the manuals to adjust but I can't get rid of the popping at shut off. Any help out there.

Re: Carb adjustments

Re: Carb adjustments
I rebuilt the motor, bought a brand new carb, bought a new muffler, I idle it down to about 1200, let it run for several minutes, and mine still does it.

Re: Carb adjustments
do you shut it off too early after running it hard? could be the common problem of carbon detonation. try letting it idle for a bit at idle so fuel don't load up .

Re: Carb adjustments
My 123 doesn't do it, so it has to be an adjustment issue. I may have to check the timing.

Re: Carb adjustments
It may be idling too fast or too rich.

Re: Carb adjustments
I'd second double-checking the timing. Also turn the main jet in an 1/8 of a turn or so and see if it still does it (provided it still runs good turned in a little).
From the first Original to the last x82 Series... you can't beat an IH Cub Cadet!!!
Re: Carb adjustments
This has been talked about a lot over the years and seems very common for some Kohler engines and I have never heard of a solution to the problem and I don't think it's timing. There was a name for it but can't remember it(Kohler Kough or something like that)

Re: Carb adjustments
"Kohler Kough"
Isn't that caused by carbon build up the exhaust valve as it is close to the exhaust port, and being cherry red from running it will detonate gas that is drawn into cylinder because it was idling too fast when shut down ?

Re: Carb adjustments
I took some time with both of them today got the 125 perfect, the 102 doesn't pop now but has no power under load.
