So after the snow 2 weeks ago I found my front end was too light. I took a piece of a fall protection from work that they had modified and it works perfect for holding the suite case weights!

The following Video is funny but you may not want your kids to see some parts of it  http://www.gaskrank.tv/tv/motorrad-fun/ ... -11100.htm
I wanted to post this in the Coffee Shop but I think shooting the breeze qualifies it to be posted here

I picked up this QA blade at the Bernrdston, Mass. show last year for 40 bucks. Except for the lift rod it was all there.

I have no idea what somebody was pushing with it, maybe boulders in third gear, those dents in the middle are huge!

First time that I have ever seen a front wheel hub separate like this, my Son welded it up for me.

So I am thinking about pressing these well worn 25x 8.0 atv tires into this year's lawn service.
Has any one tried this and will it tear the lawn up?
DSCN0848.JPG
I do realize that spacers will probably be needed on the back side of the pin on deck mounts to level out the deck.
The rear end was made from several machines and when I did a 17 tooth 2nd was used so the ground speed will probably be about the same as 23's with a 19 second, it seems that way from what I can tell.
There is more than enough fender clearance too- I tried pushing some dirt around while the Winter blade was still on and all in all it did quite well

Ken,
I use Tru power AGs to mow with and they never tear up the lawn.

OK, then I'm going to give it a try- that does seem to have changed the stance quite a bit, getting the deck to level is going to take some work.
DSCN0853.JPG
Today was kindle wood stacking day. There is a wood shop just a few miles down the road that makes many of the cases for the L.S. Starrett Co.
Boy does that cabinet grade stuff burn good, been using it for years. My Son came home with a full pickup load, about fifty boxes worth.

I held off against putting the weights on until the deck is where I like it though
DSCN0858.JPG
There's no sense in horsing those things around until the deck is setup right
Thanks for the input guys, let's see what happens :)

Tri ribs or V-61s work good on the front for mowing and snow plowing.

Well, it looks as though we have this year's Summer time beater tractor dialed in pretty close- the deck is just about where I want it, but it's still in need of some tweaking.
DSCN0860.JPG
The deck does have to be taken back off first though- the blades need changing out and we still need to do welding work to patch up some holes on the deck shell.
I'm curious to learn how the ATV tires will respond to our very hilly terrain. The 17 tooth second seems just about right with the higher tires however I have noted quite an increase in speed using first gear, I have not tried third gear yet :o

It's not my fault if it snows now. :D

I just removed the QA-42, tire chains, steel plates and weight bracket off my 122. Put on the 42" deck and now I'm ready to mow.

Not too bad for 35 minutes work

Jeff I did the same thing two days ago nothing in the directions though of completely removing lift rod off blade I removed it off the rock shaft and unhooked the front bracket slid it off the frame-- now I have a knot on my head to remind me to take the rod completely off as when blade dropped down it see sawed off the front axle like a tribuchea ( spelling ?) and caught me just about dead center at my hair line.

I think also the mower carrier must have gained some length -- Had a heckova time getting it on for the mule drive .

Did a spindle change on the deck from Rays and mowed the yard worked great !

Jim,
The trebuchet is an ancient siege engine used for throwing large rocks. It was invented in China in about the 4th century BC, came to Europe in the 6th century AD, and did not become obsolete until the 16th century, well after the introduction of gunpowder.

There are various kinds of trebuchets. The latest and best kind consists of a long pivoting beam, a very heavy counterweight swinging from a hinge at one end, and a sling with a big rock hooked to the other. A frame holds it all together and there is a track on the ground. When released the weight drops, the beam rotates, and the rock slides down the track in the sling. When free of the track the sling rotates very quickly up and over the beam and slips off a hook. The rock spills out of the sling and flies away.

And, a little known fact.....
Modern day trebuchets are used for slinging items such as pumpkins, pianos and other fun to sling things. Apparently. in recent years, the trebuchet has become self aware and has been incorporating itself into modern mechanical devices. Being jealous of its past as the machine for inflicting pain and falling from favor, has spurned its resurgence. The trebuchet may show up in unsuspecting devices and is always poised to inflict pain. So, watch yourself, they are out there..... waiting.

Here's what I learned today. When you want to change the camshaft on a K-301 ( 125 ), you have to completely disassemble the engine to do so. :banghead:

I'll finish the reassembly after dinner

Yup, the first thing is the lifters.

I'm getting pretty good at NF engine removal. Rebuilt another K-301 for my 125 ( but made a serious mistake using an "el cheapo" ebay kit ) but the rings never seated correctly and it used a pint to mow for a hour. Rings never seated even after 25 hours.

Rebuilt the engine in the 122 using Kohler parts. That runs like a dream.

I had rebuilt the original 125 but it wouldn't start. I had gotten another cam with some ebay parts and the one I put in had .015 more lift so I put that one in. Only problem was the ACR didn't work and it wouldn't start.

I just got in from finishing up the K301 ( again  ) with the original cam and it fired off on the second rev

Life is good :D

Quick question here. Will the 3 turn steering gear fit directly into the older two turn steering boxes or do you have to change other stuff too? Someone asked me and I honestly never thought about it and don't know. TIA

I bought mine that way, from ebay. Both of my steering columns were shot. But they do steer a lot better now.
