Hey guys, Long time no post here! Hope all is well!
My grandfathers 1541 coil died again. Of course cost is an issue with cub wanting about $140, I found a place I can get one for about $22 on sale. The only thing is the cub/kohler number is Kohler 52-584-02: the cheap one is Kohler 52-584-01 and or 52-584-02-S (note the S on the end) what is the difference and would it work? Though I am real cautious of buying a new one for $22, the (S) coils are generally cheaper on my internet searches.
Thanks
Here is what I am talking about.

The 2 above are both (s) coils.
The link below is a non (s) coil for the cub/kohler spec.

Confusing!
1541 coil?
Re: 1541 coil?
The kohler numbers may be like the IH numbers ans the 02 has a change and my guess on the S is that t's made in China instead of Mexico. All will work but how long? For $22 I would take a chance.

Re: 1541 coil?
That was what I was thinking too! I can buy quite a few $22 coils vs the oem price. All the numbers run in circles. If you have an 01 the 02 s will work. Some sites just omit the plain 02 and everything is 02 s. So I am really thinking the 02 is becoming obsolete and the 02 s is the new #. I even went on kohlers website and used the 1541 engine spec and it told me to use an 02 s.
Thanks

From one of the places i order Kohler parts from, they say the "S" just means it is a service part that you can buy.
