149 Hydro cooling fan replacement

149 Hydro cooling fan replacement

I ordered a new fan for the 149 as there was only one blade left. What is the proceedure for replacing it?

You will have to remove either the engine or the transaxle to get the driveshaft out. Engine might be easier since you wont have to disturb the hydro linkage. It is a fairly involved job. I believe we have the service manual somewhere on this site that you can download. It would help to read over the procedure in there first.

unbolt the 4 bolts on the flex joint next to the pump end of drive go to engine end of drive shaft drive out role pin take small pri parpry forward tap apart easy

How vital is this fan ??

The one on my 129 is down to one brittle blade.

Thanks for the dis-assembly instructions, as I will be referring to them when I get a new fan.

Finally got time to install new fan. It took longer to knock the pin out of the front of driveshaft than anything else. Heat and PB helped. Will have to get the cup assembly and new pin as mine is kind of wallowed out but not too bad. Will replace rag joint also at that time. Lance
