Original engine part

Post by jdonovan »

What is the part called that the recoil will grab to spin the engine over? I thought it is called the "cup". According to an original engine diagram, the cup is the same for both the pull starts and electric start engines. Doesn't the recoil cup need the grooves in it so that the recoil will grab it? Part #92

No, the same cup is used for both electric and recoil starting. The "cup" with the groves is used with a different version of recoil starter that Kohler used, but was not used on the Cub Cadet.

Part number 163, a plate or friction "shoe'' (more than one per assy) has a semi sharpened edge that will bite into or wedge against the cup enough to turn the engine over as the recoil rope is pulled.
May you always have as many landings as you do takeoff's.........
