Thanks, I am using the plans from PF engineering, with a few modifications. Hoping to get the bucket this weekend from a friend of mine who is making it for me. As for the pump, I have been looking at the four to eight gallon, any thoughts on the size of the pump would be greatly appreciated. I will post some more pics after I get the bucket and everything gets welded. Thanks again Mike.

Making some more progress. All square and welded up, also changed the bottom bucket mount to increase the curl, gained about 7" instead of 4"

Making some more progress. Everything is all welded up and then got disassemble for paint. Went with the omni au and a clear coat. Looks very good. Started to reassembly and onto the pump install. Going to go with a Lovejoy right to the crank, looks like it is going to fit without cutting into the frame. Just had to cut off some of the crankshaft.

David - You are continuing to do some really nice looking work!

Just comparing to my Kwik-Way loader, I'm thinking that the tie rod style cylinders are probably more than you need, especially for the bucket. (None of the Kwik-Way cylinders are tie-rod style). Also, your lift cylinders tie in after the bend in the lift arms, where mine ties in closer, before the bend. Engineering trade-offs; mounting further away like you did will give more lift capacity at the expense of speed and weight (although of course you can compensate for speed with a bigger pump). Even with the smaller standard cylinders mounted closer on mine it will still lift more than the tractor can handle! :lol:

I mention it because even having mine on a Super, you can feel the weight of the loader, and of course, especially when loaded. Any excess weight of the loader will take away from the payload capacity.

I am certainly not criticizing, you seem to have thought this through and it looks fabulous! As an engineer, I'm just mentally rolling around the design differences; just something that interests me.

I see you have beefed up the spindles, and that is surely the weakest link on mine. I have broken the steering side once, the wheel was in a depression and I steered too fast and snapped the top right off! :oops: (Hydraulic power steering has a down side, can't feel steering resistance as well!)

Anyway, really enjoying the build, keep the pics coming!

1st class job David! Thanks for sharing. I know in my workshop.....most projects come out of necessity. Do u have a big project on the books for the loader when its all done? That's how I justify some of my cub dollars spent....some sort of money saving project. In ground pool, big patio, paver project, detached garage, new house foundation, driveway extension?.... U gotta have something! :lol:

Nice work on your loader David!
Once you get the loader done you may want to build a new axle. I had 1" spindles on my 149 and had seen guys break axle castings so I made an axle from steel tube and new spindles......now the next weak link will be in the frame of the 149.

P.S. what is the square plate bolted to the block for?

Yes, I am curious of the plate too.

I'll now be embarrassed to post the next job I do where I don't get to the painting... So nice that it is a complete job.

I have been wanting to something like this for a while. So I ended up getting the PF engineering plans.The plans called for 16 inch cylinders and they were on sale and the cheapest at the time at Dalton Hydraulics.The pump is a 4 to 8 gpm which was recommended. As far as the payload capacity? from what I've read and seen on the Internet it should handle 500 lbs with no problem.The spindle upgrade was easy enough to do, also re sleaved the holes where the spindles mount to the axle

Going to help my brother rip up his long #ss driveway this summer which will save a lot of money. Also split a lot of wood every year , I think that the loader will be a great help with that

Used the four mounting holes on the block to mount the plate to. If you look closely at the pump you can see another plate mounted to the pump.Once I get the rubber piece for the love joy and get everything lined up I'll get four small pieces of flat stock and weld them in which will hold the pump in place to the engine

Ended up getting a few more things done over the weekend, just setting the tank in to see how to run the hoses.

Dave I don't think that was a special bolt. But I would definitely use washers on both sides and use a nylock nut. Not sure if it was 1/4 or 5/16. If you want to get the correct bolt I could look tomorrow.

Dave , nice job looks great !! My first loader was mounted on a 1450 .

My only concern is your choice of front tires . While the bar front tires add to the cool factor , the steering wheel is going to turn a little harder in soft dirt than it would with a wider less aggressive tread pattern , especially with a bucket full of dirt or gravel . I used a 4 ply 8 inch highway rated trailer style front tire on mine and they don't squat even with the bucket loaded .
Also a later 82 series 3 turn steering box with the steering upgrade ( thrust bearing ) will make it steer easier unless you plan on adding power steering .

Just thinking out loud here , and I wish my loader cub looked as good as yours . :beer:
I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

Dave, another from the "your are doing nice work" camp......but, i would be some what concerned about two things with you hyd reservoir. First would be ALL of your cooling air is now directed at the tank instead of out the grille and could lead to overheating(even with the heat shield). Second is the heat absorbed by the reservoir over heating the hyd fluid.

Thanks for the info on the bolt for the valve lift bracket. As far as the tank I contacted Paul from P.F. engineering, he thinks it should be fine.If I get to much heat transfer I can always change the design,maybe make the tank a little smaller and let the air flow around the tank.Just thought it would look cleaner with the tank under the hood.Plus I might leave the side covers off and let the heat out that way.

Hey Dave C

I found some vague prints for the brinly adapter online somewhere so I made one up.
Don't know if I can use some part of it to hold some weights, really didn't think much
about it yet. Starting to do the electrical now and then I am going to start on the hydraulics.
If you or anybody else has pics or ideas about the counter weights, let me know. It'll help down the road

Dave - My opinion... For my loader tractor, the 3-point is an integral part of the tractors usefulness. I really wouldn't want to clog up the hitch with weight.

I started with the Kwik-Way weight box, and it made for a real long rig. After I purchased my 3-point, I was forced to properly address the counterweight issue. What I found was that it is frustrating to have a loader if you don't step-up and really put enough weight back there.

I ended up with:
Two sets of 65 lb wheel weights on each side = 260 lb
Loaded tires with Rim Guard; 20 gallons total x 11 lb/gal = 220 lb
Estimate of 3-point with rear pto = 30 lb
Total counterweight added = 510 lb

This is approximate. I probably add it up slightly different each time... :lol:

I used RV antifreeze in my other tractors before I knew I could get Rim Guard for the same price. RV antifreeze is only slightly heavier than water. Some use windshield washer fluid, but the methanol doesn't do the tires any favors, and is slightly lighter than water. Figure about 8.5 lb/gallon for RV A/F versus 11 lb per gallon for Rim Guard, it's a no brainer. The local dealer did it in a few hours after I dropped off the tires and really ended up about the same as buying RV A/F.

Having a Super, I can get more gallons per tire, but you get the idea of the kind of weight i felt I needed for a loader.

Only pics I could find quickly of loader. Again, it is so nice to have a loader tractor with the sleeve/3-point, as you don't have another attachment hogging the lift function!

The nice thing about getting so much weight from the Rim Guard is two sets of wheel weights don't make for an obnoxious profile with weights hanging out everywhere.

I like unspring weight but I could only get so much on a Cub(wheel centers filled with steel, cast wheel weights and loaded 10 x 23s) so I added a box filled with lead to the three point. I can remove it if I need but need to rarely from having other Cubs.
I do have to say that it is one plowing fool with all the weights and the loader :mrgreen:
