A "followed me home" thread! Caution: one ugly Cub Cadet
Picked up this little ugly monster this morning. I guess working 2nd shift does have some advantages. It's a 102. Mostly complete, missing gas tank.

Re: A "followed me home" thread! Caution: one ugly Cub Cadet
Ugly but there is hope there.
I am restoring my 102 now. It has been in the family since new.
It has been a trailer puller for a few years and has been the most used
tool around my place. Everything is painted except for the tower. I
am cutting out some rust around the battery box. The old 242 has been
rebuilt and sleeved several times. I am using a 242 from a 107 this time.
I had rebuilt is a few years ago and it was just sitting here. I have a 1000
and the 107 sitting under a shed.
I inherited an old Ford LGT and am using it now as the puller. It was
my mothers and I restored it for her about 20 years ago. It doesn't
look like much but keeps running. It has the 12HP Kohler.
Are you going to restore this 102?

Re: A "followed me home" thread! Caution: one ugly Cub Cadet
Yep, think I will Ed, I have one 102 already that is in real nice original shape. I'm working on a trade on a Haban Cycle mower and would like to get this one in nice shape and put the Haban on it. I have several in "moth balls" waiting on when I retire or at least slow my work schedule down some but I had planned to go ahead and start working on 1 and I think this will be it. (although that 147 sitting in the shed calls my name everytime I walk by it, and the 104, the 72, the 124, ..................)

Wham,
That sounds great.
Mine had a whine and would come out of reverse. I had to go into the differential and
transmission. I think the main problem was a loose shifter and the pinion had worn
out of tolerance. I had some spare gears and replaced a couple.
I have finally started making the pieces to replace the rust. I will go together quick
when I finish the tower. Most everything is ready to bolt on. I have a new wiring
harness and decals.
I never liked the bright yellow. I went with the cat yellow from Tractor Supply.
I am attaching some pictures. The picture of the Cub and trailer was made in
2005 so it had 10 more years of wear to now. I fabricated the trailer right
after I moved here 30 years ago. A friend gave me an old boat trailer and that
is what I used. The floor is made from old pallets. I stripped it out and positioned
it so I could cut off the nail ends of oak pallet boards and bolt them in. They will
rot out over time. I can find some old pallets and be back in business.
I made a lot of pictures but it will only let me attach 5
I have accumulated a lot of spare parts over the years. If you need something,
let me know.

Nope, my buddy's in Boston for a couple of weeks working on some bridge parts they milled in Haleyville and sent by sea barge up to Boston. Seems it got caught in the Hurricane and the saltwater did a number on those 200 ton parts they were shipping. I guess they are just glad nothing got lost at sea. Meanwhile I'm sitting here a waiting on my Haban. May ride down there and pick it up if he isn't home soon.

Vince, I'm guessing y'all got rained out unless you had pontoons on that Cub Cadet! I think the whole state is drenched today!

Re: A "followed me home" thread! Caution: one ugly Cub Cadet
I posted some pictures of my in-progress restoration a few
months ago,
I finally finished it except for the IHC decal on the back plate.
Everything works great and the gears are quiet.
I hate to hitch it back to the trailer but I need it in service.

Ed - Looks great! I love that you're putting it back in service, I like them better when they are still used for real. Just more appealing to me than a parade piece!

I thank all for the feedback.
It will sure be used as it has for the past 50 years.
I did keep the mower deck and attachments.
I mow about 6 acres and use a zero turn for that.

Re: A "followed me home" thread! Caution: one ugly Cub Cadet
Tim , brought this one home last night , seems to have a steering issue . Maybe the experts on this site can help me .
It wasn't to bad to load as we used a two wheel lift dolly under the front axle to roll it up the loading ramps . Seems the previous owner needed the front spindles for a 125 he owned that had broken one .
I have the original white rubber seat in good shape and the mowing deck which seems solid and the 102 actually runs .
Added bonus is it has a creeper . I think I'll put spindles and tires on it and pass it on to someone looking for a project .

It has definitely come along way from when it followed you home
I like to see them saved ( even though I know everybody needs parts too)

Yep, my old buddy Tim said the surprising thing was once he got the thing cleaned up a little and cranked it the engine ran well and did not smoke or anything. He's really into the restoration thing, he's coming Saturday to get the O that I picked up last Monday and is gonna do a full restoration on it for me, I've already started working on it some but I have another that he once owned that he wants back really bad so I told him we could do a little trading on that I guess. By the way, his name is Tim to, didn't want to confuse anyone. Here's the O he is going to start on for me:
