Tiger Cub

Post by chzuck »

Anyone remember the member on the old IH Registry that had a 123 painted like the promotional Tiger Cub? I know I went to see the owner because he lived near my son. I cannot remember his name or when I visited. I am sure I took photos and I cannot even find them. :(

Charles,
As I was not a member of the old Registry I can't say if any of the Tiger Cubs ever appeared there. It did show up on the Garden Tractor Talk forum at one time.
Weather or not this was the exact same one I'm unsure.
However there have been a couple of threads posted on this site about them. They were easy to trace by going back to my own post history.
The Tiger Cub was posted by member Paul Funk on behalf of his friend on Nov. 24, 2010. Perhaps this is the machine that you are thinking of.

Another just as impressive machine is the Leopard Cub posted by member Mike LaMar on Jan. 4, 2011.

After some extensive searching on the computer I found the one I saw that resided in Bedford County. The date on the photo is 2006. I was a member of the great IH Registry and that is where I learned of it and contacted Ron and made arrangements to see it. Now if I could only find my photos I took while there.

I find it hard to believe that you where not on the registry!? I've known you in person for 10 plus years now the registry came out about 04 ish. Did you find us "across the street" and then come here? Inquiring minds want to know?

Does anyone know how many were done up this way, how many remain, and how many could be tribute machines ?

I wish I could remember the story behind the Ron Clark Tiger Cub. If you search Ron Clark on this forum photos of his cubs will come up.

As I recall they where all repainted and sold after the orignal sales program ended. All the ones we see today are painted from a few photos taken in the 60's.

Here is a picture from International Harvester World from 1966. You can see the one Charlie posted above is close. It also looks like the originals had headlights for eyes.
I would have to agree with Joe, the original Tiger Cubs were probably either repainted and sold or destroyed when they were done being used.

Fealess Frisbee and his cubs, reminded me I have the magazine.
From the pics I see the stripes on the tiger were not painted as I noticed them peeling in one of the pictures.

That is what prompted me to inquire about the one that was on the IH Registry.

Thanks, Joe. My wife has been after me for years to make that for her. She taught at a high school that had a tiger as their mascot. The Wisconsin Historical Society was very helpful. They sent me copies of negatives of about 80 pictures to choose from. Very friendly and easy to work with, but there's a lot of paper work to get permission to use their pictures. And, it's not cheap or there would have been a lot more of the historical pictures. It was a fun article to write.

Paul, I know what you mean about getting permissions for photos. I only write a few articles and wanted to use a photo I saw on the web. I noted the name of a university on one version of the photo and thought I should contact them. It would have cost me almost half of what I probably would have been paid for the article. The strangest thing is what I collect is no where near as popular as Cub Cadet. You would think something like that would be good press just to mention the institution. For one article I dealt with the Eisenhower Library in Kansas and their prices were so much more reasonable.
