V-Belt IH-401960-R1

Post by planejeff »

I recently bought a V-Belt IH-401960-R1 for my 129. I put it on the engine pulley it was tight to put on the generator. I got it on but the belt has no slack in it. The generator is touching the motor! I am guessing it is the wrong belt but it is the one that is called out for a 129?
Thanks

It's the right belt. There's a belt manual here and that's what is called for. Fairly typical for the generator to be close to the engine block although locations can vary a bit.
If the belt is not over tightened I'd go with it. An over tightened belt will cause premature bearing wear within the generator along with the possibility of wallowing out the bore in the generator bearing end plate.

Maybe you have the wrong starter generator on it. There is a difference, right Ken?

Narrow frame on left, wide frame on right. see the difference in the orientation of the end cap?

Does it being wide frame or narrow frame even matter?
They all use the same lower mounting bracket and engine bolt up location do they not?
I would think the one needed is shown on the left-

Using the one on the left will yield this
Pretty far over toward the low limit. Almost touching the engine.

Using the one on the right will get you this. Overtravel and misalignment.

By the way Lew, thank you. It came out nice.
