This is my barn ornament I restored years ago. I never ran it much except playing after the repaint so never realized it had motor issues. Sounded good until it ran hard for 10 minutes then smoked out of the top and died a lot.
Got a wild hair having it out once, tore it down, found a ring gap of. 052 (.010-.020 is spec), broken governor gear (had no idea), bad seal on top (probably where smoke escaped), burned points with oil soaked possibly also smoking, and bad cam seal. And yes, it really did run great on startup and didn't smoke.
After far too many hours research and realizing the motor spec number doesn't exist on most sites, I found all the parts and sunk $80 in the motor, but as you know it isn't replaceable. No wear in cylinder wall except a few scratches.
When it was all said and done I looked back and thought,"wow! That was enjoyable but if I did all this to K series or KT17 I'd have something." Oh well, it was different and can't wait to mow with the little guy a while just because. Still going to true up the head and lap valves but it's together again besides that.

Nice. I got a snapper out of someone's trash. It was fun to use....

It's alive. Ran it for an hour today piddling. Got a good washing and reunited with cart while at it. It's the "little" things in life. I used to have a 75 I fitted an 11hp Briggs on. It would pull the front wheels off the ground and almost bushhog in 3rd gear. I ended up selling it when I got this because I like the yellow 60 so much
Wish I could find a blade or snowthrower for it.

Ain't that the truth! It can feel so good to just make something right. Then the wife just doesn't quite get it, so you have to share with your forum buddies!ksanders wrote: It's the "little" things in life.

Re: Cadet 60 -the little guys deserve some attention too-
Thanks guys. My nieces rode on it for hours the other night. It's perfect for kids because if you let off the pedals it stops. Come to think about it, my whole family rode it a while. Nieces, nephew, mom, dad, brother... who knew
My wife's pretty cool about them. I can't complain. We restored a scrapyard deserving 1000 to look like her dad's 240 international that she uses with my #2 cart quite often. Even has its own bay and door in the barn. Also redid her dad's Farmall Cub for her so I don't own them all around here.

Re: Cadet 60 -the little guys deserve some attention too-
Does anyone have any info on the cadet 85. i have my serial number and am new to the site. I've never been on a forum before. I purchased my Cadet 85 for $50.00 motor was trashed so i installed an engine from Harbor Freight and it does quiet well pulling it. I have a serial number of 85 above the other numbers so 85 / 0340026u059803. I would also like to find a 32" deck for it and actually put it to use would be great if I could find one reasonably priced.

Craig - Welcome aboard!
I would scour Craigslist every day, and you'll likely find another machine that is busted up with a usable deck. You could also check for the guys in your area that salvage Cubs and part them out.
