Hey Guys,


Newbie here, well......the last month has been a whirlwind in my and my families life. My grandpa passed on. We are beginning the process of cleaning things out and the house etc etc.....but....however.....we have no clue what to do with his tractor. Yes we have thought about keeping it and we only say we want it to go to a collector or to someone who will take great care of it. It is in amazing shape. Zero Rust. He used it everyday. Has a plow. which he plowed snow with.... We even have the manuals like new. It is a real beauty. This was the one thing he loved more than grandma.

We were just wondering if anyone knew what it is worth? or anyone in PA interested.

Sorry ....he didnt love it more than my Grandma....but I think he used it so much to get away from her sometimes in the house...! haha....

I think that folks here would enjoy seeing a few actual images of your Grandfathers machine. My condolences to your family.
I think that original owners of these machines usually fell into two general groups, those who poured in the gasoline and did little else other than let the rain wash them off, and a smaller group, those who maintained them perfectly with regular servicing, cleaning, and yes even waxing them. His sounds like the latter case.
If your thinking about selling you may consider posting a few images here in the for sale section with additional description and asking price. You may go to Craigslist or local advertising as a resource as well.
However consider that once your Grandfathers machine is gone it's gone and a part of HIM is gone as well. Maybe it's best served that a family member keeps it for a while first. With estate matters often it's best to wait about a year before making a family decision to sell it. Good luck.

Welcome Tye! Yeah we would need some pictures of actual machine to try to help. The one in the photo is probably a $2000 dollar tractor.
And just for the record....I never cut the lawn just to escape the craziness of the house

The picture you show is of the series we call "Wide Frame"... or "WF". That series has numbers like 108, 128... or 109, 129,149, and 169.
The 10,12,14, 16 refers to engine horsepower of the Kohler engine under the hood. K241 is 10hp... K301 is 12hp, K321 is 14hp, and K341 is 16hp.
The 1x8's are all gear-drive... 3 speed, a real clutch on shaft (not a belt) drive. Some had a high-low range "creeper" option. The 1x9's were all hydrostatic drive.

Tough as nails. Heavy, and capable of pulling plows... intended to. It's not a 'lawn mower", it's a 'garden tractor'.

The 'chrome wheels'... those are probably factory hubcaps... an option.

The deck in the picture you posted, is referred to as a 'cast end' deck. Later rounded-end decks are stamped steel.

Post pictures of it from all sides, we'll tell you exactly what you have.

Yes its definitely a 3speed. Real Clutch on shaft.

It was never store outside....it was always stored in the barn, and yes was and even waxed sometimes.

I just got off Loader-Mutt, clearing 5" of accumulation and 16" drifts, our highest was 12F today...

Yes, it would have been a little more comfortable to be inside a heated cab, and not having to wear coveralls, with a heavy coat in my face and tangling me up at every turn, but Mutt is FAST at moving around, so it wasn't so bad. My feet are still cccccold... but I'll spend an hour in the shower...

Hey guys!!! My aunt had some pics she found in his drawer. We put a small one pic in with him, because he spent so much time with this tractor. Here are the pics.

That's a 108... 10hp, gear drive, with cast-end deck... looks like a 44" or so... factory headlights, taillights, and factory chrome wheel covers with IH logo.

That's all original IH stuff... no substitutions from other series, or other brands. Guys work hard to get them in that realm of 'completeness' and 'authenticity'.

You should keep it, use it, and care for it... You cannot BUY machines like this anymore...

Factory hubcaps are highly prized and ones in perfect condition almost impossible to find. Adds 250 to the machine or stand alone. The machine itself as shown is worthy of fetching a premium price. Don't, don't, don't, ding those hubcaps up if taking them off. The front blade is more common, that adds 75 to 150 to the package depending on condition. The manuals could sell with or without the machine but that would be breaking up the overall history of the package. As I mentioned before now is not the time to sell, I think you would do much better waiting till Spring.

Yes it has a snow plow, chains, and I want to say some kind of weight harness for it. My dad and pap used to plow with it when I was a kid.......Just wondering what something like this would go for.....


You guys have me wanting to keep it. Which I probably will now. Its so hard ....they guy took care of this tractor for over 40 years......I cant just get rid of it in 4 months after he's gone.

How recent are those pics?
If fairly recent, he didn't just take care of it... he babied it!
Since they're photos of snapshots (from film) I'm leaning towards some time ago.

Dave that’s not a cast end deck. Just a stamped end n/f deck. It is correct for a 8/9 series as it was phased out for the 44/50” stamped deck used though the ql 82 series and into the Cyclops. It is a 42” deck with the flat runners so as someone’s said it is all factory correct for a 108.

I should add that cast end decks came out in the 70/100 series and where phases out after the 1x2/3’s. They would still bolt right up onto all the Narrow frames so dealers could sell old deck inventory. They also had a kit to moun them on originals, it required a front PTO kit. The stamped end decks took there place. The stamped end 38” made it into production through the 82 series! They just changed the pulley stack for the 5/8 belt.

I will get some update pics soon.....but I'm willing to bet those pics are from the last 3 to 4 years.....I just cut grass with it in early november then took deck off for winter......he was sick and couldnt go outside. Thats what it looks like still.

That 108 is super nice. I sold my 108 (a '72) one time but the buyer didn't think it had enough HP so he ask me to take it back. He is my friend and had not paid me ($500)- so it was easy to take back (and I had seller's remorse real bad so thank Goodness that I got it back.) I am real glad I got it back. Never again. My advice is to keep it.

Yep, Joe's right- it isn't cast iron... I should'a been wearin' my cheaters.

To the OP- One of the plusses to having a gear drive, is PTO HP. A hydrostat requires a little more horsepower just to operate... the gear drive doesn't have as much static drag, so when you're running a high PTO load, the gear drive offers that plus.

Of course, the down-side, is that the hydrostatic drive will run ANY ratio, so if you're going through variable grass, you can slow down or speed up to keep the deck properly fed with grass...

Also, I have noted that an all-gear will start ALOT easier in the coldest of winter, than a cold hydro drive garden tractor. The mechanical energy transfer system trumps any substitute. { psssst,... hydros are awesome to operate too }

That's a nice 108! It's my hope that you decide to hang on to the machine. As others have pointed out, the 108 looks complete and authentic. All being said, and waiting on update photos, I'll say the 108 is worth $900.00, and NOT one red cent less! Hopefully, that also persuades it to stick around with you a while longer!

Alright Guys, got the old girl out and mowed for first time this year. Gave her a bath first and she ran great.


These are updated pics of my paps who passed away tractor. I was thinking about selling it. Still am. Any idea whats its worth would be great. I cant remember if its a 75 or 72. I have the owners manual just couldnt remember. Take a look. Has a plow, tire chains, weights as well.

I'm thinking it's a 1972. The next series was out in 1975.... maybe 74 I forget. So to answer your question on what it's worth.....a lot goes into that but I will give u what I think. It looks great but I think original paint adds a little more to the value. U could ask $1000.....but might sell for $600-$800. Just my thoughts.
But like others have said. Hold on for a while......once it's gone....it's gone! But if your not a Cub guy.....that makes the sale easier for you. Keep us posted.
