Paint choices

Post by Chardie »

I’m fairly new here and I’m sure paint has been discussed several times but I was unable to find an answer anywhere. I know there’s a rust-oleum yellow that’s pretty close to the cub yellow for my 122. I’m just completing a engine rebuild and am not doing a full restoration yet. My kids will be driving this around the yard. I don’t see a point in $10 to $15 rattle cans at this time. Can someone help please?

No help here! Seems to me general colors at home Depot and Lowe's are about $5. As soon as u get something special for a color match....boom price gets nuts. If u have a tractor supply or ag store try there first. Rust-Oleum almond is a dead nuts match on the Cub cadet white for tractors from the 1970s and 80s. I haven't looked for the yellow in a while but last time I did .... nothing matched. Get us some pictures.

Here’s a picture of my mess with multiple projects going on it. The engine has been in progress for a while and I can’t remember what yellow I used on the small pieces. Again not looking for an exact match just close. I can see by the NOS stuff I have it’s not a match

TSC has a Cub Cadet yellow that will be close enough. It is sold in the section with tractor paint and literally says "Cub Cadet Yellow" on the label. The "factory" Cub cans are crazy expensive and spray terrible. The TSC stuff isn't bad, sprays pretty good.

Otherwise I think "Federal Yellow" is as close as you will get, if Rust Oleum has that color.
