1650 Pedal Return Spring

Post by ReicheP »

The pedal return spring for my 1650 broke. Do I need to remove the fenders to replace or perhaps just the drive shaft cover?

Factory item only or has anyone found a hardware store spring that will work?

Paul....my 1650 is a longer one. I tried to get pics of each end. It goes on the inside of the frame ....from near the pedal...back to the trans side frame mount. Maybe few inches unstressed.... stretched... probably 6"-8"

Idk.... start with the tunnel cover. If u do find a spring to go to the trans mount....that's pretty low on the frame so u can probably hook from underneath. Then work the front on. I always find it hard to grab springs ..by the end with pliers..and get them on at the same time. My normal is like six or 7 tries....with some blood involved :(

I've got the short one. My memory is foggy but last time I installed it a rigged up a length of twine, hooked the spring on the rear mount, ran the twine out the front towards the engine. I was able to pull it forward into position.

We will advise install procedure and keep track of skinned knuckles, bandages, stitches etc.

Actually I'm thinking a bungie tied to the pedal and hooked to the dash would do the same thing. At least it's not January.

Looks like something Tom Scott...or Big Mike would orchestrate. Only Big Mike would hook it to the steering wheel.... :D

dag, you're an idiot! Everyone knows it should be hooked to the hydro lever so it pulls the brake off more the faster you go!

I'm sure Paul knows that and moves it over there before he starts using for the day! :D
