I am a new member that just joined and I have only had my Cub Cadet 7 days. I have a model 70 that I got from the grandson of the original owner I just checked the serial number on the the side of my gear reduction housing and the number is 4688. This would seem to be too low for a Model 70 so I am unsure of other ways to verify the actual age of the CC. Perhaps it was replaced at some point, I am not sure how to proceed? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My guess is there are more numbers or just a number under the paint. If your upto it take a little light sand paper and clean up the area. I’m sure you will come up with something.

Welcome and nice machine :)
Would you be able to post a macro shot of the s/n?
I'm guessing you should be looking for a 6, 7, 8, or 9 prior to the 4. The numbers were hand stamped and not always spaced evenly

It can't be a reduction housing from an "O"

Hi Guys!
Ken was correct, I cleaned the area around the serial with MEK and found a poorly stamped "8" in front of the other numbers, Hooray!
