New to the site. My 108
After a year of settling for a MTD Cub Cadet 1320 I finally came across a 108 that needed saving. Its rough...but its what I wanted. Rough is always good for me. This means I can tear it down and start all over. I was going to rebuild the 1320...but I wasnt really happy with it. I was searching for a IH Cub. This one just so happen to show up on Facebook one night for 100.00 and I could get there fast enough. It wasnt running. The guy told me the starter was shot. Turns out the solenoid was the problem. Someone had replaced the carb. Newer carb with a plastic float in it. But left it sit long enough that it needed to be taken apart and cleaned. I threw it in the ultrasonic cleaner for 30 minutes and it was good to go. couple of pieces missing and the wrong air cleaner on it. Definitely the wrong seat. Almost remind me of the one that was on our Farmall 1206 when we got it when I was a kid. Hood hinge is broke.
The guy said he had it running...but it doesnt look like it has been running for awhile. I filed down the points and rest them. Then I noticed the wire from the coil was loose. So it wasnt getting any spark. After that I sprayed some gas into the carb and jumped the solenoid and it fired. I backed it out of the garage and ran it around the yard. Tested everything. I should have maybe waited till it was dry out there. I kinda tore up the yard. Wife is happy. LOL. Forgot how well the old girls run. How 3 gears were enough. I will start ordering parts and getting it tore down. I do buy, sell and work on small engines all the time...but this is mine. Already two or three of my customers have been here trying to buy it. I have told them no. I found what I wanted.

Welcome. This is a perfect candidate for our new found white paint color we have been discussing on another thread...lol. It's an older Ford color called wimblton White. Do a test and we call all vote if it's correct or not.

Tim, hello and welcome
Dave, I think that what Mr. Bell was talking about is the Ford Wimbeldon white matches IH901, not 935.
The Ford color has that ever so slight olive color hue to it that the 901 also has. As we know the 935 came along later.

Ken...I haven't looked in a long time but I was thinking the 901 went up to 1974. I even the 935 is a little too cream for quietline....but that's seems what people r using. I will have to find my chart.

DAg ken
935 came out mid way through the 1x6/7 series. 901 was just the original 70/100maybe the 1x2/3 series too. 902 was used in the 4/5 and early 6/7 series.
A quick look at the faq shows the 902 as used on the 4/5-6/7 series only.

My 126 must be an early one. 902 is the whitest of the whites. Not repainted. Look at it compared to snow.
Underside of hood on my 102. Not repainted. 935. Note the light olive hue. In my eye a dead ringer for Wimbeldon white. I like this shade the best. And no, I am not going to dig it out. When needed it will dig itself out.

Yeah from what it looks like someone got a little excited with a torch. Didnt do a very good job either. Add insult to injury...I took the belt cover off and pressure washed the deck and blew some holes in it. So the deck is not restorable.JMotuzick wrote:Nice! Welcome!

Re: New to the site. My 108
I have been working on it. Been cleaning and making it run again. The old 10hp is in pretty good shape. The guy I got it from...I dont believe he ever had it running. Wire from the coil to the points was loose and wasnt getting spark. I really had to file the points. Usually its just some sandpaper and its good to go. I had to take a file to these. They are good enough for now to see it run. But they need replaced. Someone replaced the carb. This is not the original. Its been sitting awhile. Plastic float. I took it apart and threw it in the ultrasonic cleaner. 30 minutes in there at 140 degrees and it was good and clean again. That tractor seat...well that has to go. I know that is off of a 1206 or something like that. Its like the one that was on our 1206 when I was a kid in the 70's. Its was rigged in there with 2x4's. I was in the middle of trying to repair a Craftsman GT20 Hydro. Well that one the hydro was way to far gone. It had a set of 23x10.50-12's on it. I was looking at those 23x8.50-12's cookie cutters on the Cub....Had to try. That looks alot better. I took those broken tail lights off. Someone rigged those up too. Not sure what they thought they were doing with the black tape and wiring. Surprised they didnt set this one on fire. The wiring in places has been chopped on. So I am going to replace all of it with NOS wiring since there is still some out there that can be bought. Deck is going to have to be replaced. No way around that. The front wheel I havent taken off yet. I know the wheel bearing are shot. Not even sure they are even there. The left front wheel was wobbling. The hood hinge is shot. Broke. Just for giggles...I cleaned a spot on the fender and dash to see what it looked like under the dirt. Wouldnt be too bad if it wasnt for the scratches. I pressure washed the hood top and bottom. Looks alot better now. Vacuumed off all the other crud around it. Will post more as I get more done.

Couple of other things. The air cleaner isnt the right one. Someone put a 17hp twin air cleaner on there. It had the bracket for the trac vac on there and I took it off and put it on the shelf since I dont have the rest of it. Alot has to be done. But its going to be a fun restore.

Unless you are building a show queen, that deck should work ok for a few more years. I have a few decks that look like that. Some have patches welded in and ware the base metal is to thin to weld, I have pop riveted tin over the holes. If you do scrap it, save the spindles and blades. For tail lights I have been installing LED tail lights from NAPA made by optronics that look kool at night.

For right now I plan on using the deck till a good one comes along. If one comes along, I will save everything that is savable off the rusted deck.far as the tail lights goes, I will stay as close to original as possible. The whole tractor will be close to original as possible. there will be some things I will have personal touches of mine done to it.wagonmaster wrote:Unless you are building a show queen, that deck should work ok for a few more years.
