Input shaft seal
Does anyon have an aftermarket part number for the trans input shaft seal on a gear drive? The IH number is 385076R91. I believe the one for the aluminum transaxle is the same. The bearing is the same part # so I'm not sure why the seal would be different. The seal part # for the aluminum trans is 721-0193.

Re: Input shaft seal
Todd, I have crossed hard to find seals at skf's site. Last time I was on their site I looked through a pdf catalog, now it looks like they added a search by size feature. Here is a the address.

Matt,
Nothing came up. We sell SKF seals at work and I didn't find anything by dimensions in our catalog.

I believe Dave and I came to the conclusion that they are a MTD only thing at this point. although my memory is a bit hazy on this subject! I haven't seen or heard from him in a couple months now as he busy with his buy, gut, re-build house project but if you shoot him an e-mail he might know more. While your at it see if he has the powder code for 935 for me too!

Joe,
I sent him an email a week or more ago about another subject and haven't heard back from him. I'll do a little more digging.
I thought one of you had told me you were making replacement clutch discs?

We had looked into getting the PTO disc's made, we found the supplier that IH used in the 60's however they have long since tossed the mold, the machine cost to make a new one is costly and we have yet to have it done, so for now we are still buying the $50 kits from CCC. As for the drive clutch we have yet to look into this unless Dave knows something I don't.

I guess these are still my best bet for clutch discs then;

I'm running them in my diesel puller and the work pretty good.

Re: Input shaft seal
Sorry guys i have been upto my ears in a house project.... but its well on its way now! finally in the rebuild phase as oposed to the "gut" phase.... i wish some of my friends were around to help....its even gettin tough to get engine mike down.
OK IF i remember correctly that seal is similair to the water pump bearing in the 44 and 50 decks it was designed and made for MTD/ cub cadet and they have the rights to it. So as the seal has an skf part number or National i forget and it does list on skfs (or National) master parts catalog... when u try to order it they look at you like your on a crack pipe. the only people that skf can sell that seal to is mtd/cub so your stuck paying the 20 bucks or whatever.
OK now to toss another wrench into the fire now you say cant i just look up the size and find one correct id and od but different width? WRONG! that seal has a specific width cause it doesnt just act as a seal it also is a spacer between the front plate and the input shaft bearing which holds the shaft in the tranny in the correct place. or something along those lines. not to say u couldnt buy a standard seal and make up the diff with some sort of spacer.
The more i think about it i think its made by national/timken
Ok the drive clutch i was looking into gettting made but Joe Rice beat me to it... he may have some left i dunno.

Re: Input shaft seal
I sent Joe an email about the clutch disc.
I had posted this question on the Yahoo garden tractor pulling forum also.
I got an email from a guy named Scott Larkin and he told me that the OEM National seal can be gotten from this company;
http://www.ibtinc.com/
I sent them an email and I'm waiting to hear back on price and shipping.
On the pulling tractor I'm building I am going to try using a sealed bearing and not use a seal. The drive shaft support bearing should keep the bearing in place and eliminating the seal will make it easier to swap pinions at the pulls. It may seep a little oil but it won't lose enough to matter for pulling.
