A friend asks, the LT 1550 any good for yard work, etc. No plowing, no snow plowing just mowing.

Any concerns?

It's pretty much a big box store machine. Think of it as one of those with bigger tires, and use it as such. As long as you just pull a yard cart, and tasks similar, it will last many years. It's a belt drive rear end. The common items to replace are the steering sector gear. When worn, it creates very sloppy steering, and will even jam at the steering limits. A hard tug on the steering wheel in the opposite direction will almost always get you turning again. If it has the Kohler courage, those problems are well documented with a quick Google search. Some people say kohler named it the courage, because that's what you need to own it! But there are many others that love the courage series of engines, personally, it's a good fuel efficient power plant, that will last like the beloved k series, with maintenence. But like all other machines, if it's been abused and neglected, run away! Or open your wallet far and wide!

I worked on a friends LTX1050, another box store model. I don't think his made 10 years and the hydro failed. Pretty much non-repairable. In my opinion they are pitiful compared to our beloved IH Cub Cadets.
