Is that bushing a steel or iron on steel or iron, or is it a bronze (oillite) style?

If it's an oillite bronze, it's self lubricated... there's oil impregnated into the bronze, so it doesn't need additional lube...

If it's iron or steel, then it will need something... and I'd THINK there'd be a grease or oil fitting in there somehow...

Hi, Paul, nice to see you. I can confirm, it is a bronze Oilite bushing (plain bearing). As Dave says, oil is impregnated when it is made, no additional lube required. That said, you won't hurt anything giving it a squirt of oil once a year. They do tend to hold up well in this type of low speed application.

Thanks for the comments folks! They are bronze so a bit of oil. Back together, before and after shots. Besides the bent RH auger what else do you see on the old augers? This 450 came with my 1811 so damage was from PO. Dave Chester thanks the augers worked great!

Looks good, Paul!

I don't know anything about these blowers... I USED to have one for one of my 782's, but someone else needed it worse than me...

But down on the bottom edges of the sides... are there sliders/skids/wear bars? If so, I'd suggest making some new ones out of UHMW... if the original ones were steel, the UHMW's will last as long, if not longer, and slide better...

Aside from that... a cab... lots of lights... warm gloves and boots...

Still has life on the original metal skids. Not even time to turn over.

No one has mentioned the problem with the old augers. Take another look.

That's not it, they are installed one the correct side.

Ok, the slant of the scrolls struck me as odd at first, I'm not in "snow mode" yet. I'm going to blame them being bent up as throwing me off!

I'm skipping the defect of being bent up, as that's not a show stopper. I guess the lack of shear bolts is an important detail.

Wow, are the welds also broken away from the auger shaft? The spirals are too far away from the gear box.

Tom you found it!

This 450 came along with my 1811 I bought few years back. The 1811 also included 2 blades and 3 mower decks. For me a good deal. The guy had a steep driveway and said it couldn't do the job.

I had my original 450 on my 682 for years and it worked well. During the winter the gear box on this 450 froze up so I pulled it off and put the newer 450 on. I quick install and everything looked ok. It finished out the winter but for some reason it didn't work well! The right auger was bent and I assumed that was why it didn't work. I ended up just using my 1650 with a blade.

This spring Dave Chester posts an auger for sale ad and I I bought them that evening. Very good "used" quality and I also got a gear box and shaft from Dave. It took a few months to get them and they were delivered by the Cub transportation network.

So this summer I pull the augers out to find they both had the inner weld broken from the shaft. No wonder it could hardly move snow and the PO never realized why it could work on his driveway. Bad for him and good for me as I got a good package with the 1811.

So we getting any snow this winter?

Snow is coming! Although with 75 today and 65 at 9pm not anytime soon!

I’m just hoping that it’s not to cold and oil prices don’t end up double what they are now! We are going to wood this winter, first time in the house. I’m hoping that the cute wood stove that came with the house has enough in it to keep us warm, and the thermostat set to off!
