Wow, am I late to the party! Rich, have you wiggled the PTO switch while turning the engine over? I have had to do that on occasion. First thing, I'd find a known good ignition switch identical to the one you originally replaced. That way it is back to where you started. I agree with whoever said it could be a shorted wire. You started with a fairly new resto, so it still should be clean, and less difficult to see things. Good luck!

Hello,
Thanks all for your feedback and troubleshooting suggestions. A local small engine repair service who is also a Kohler Engine dealer replaced the ignition switch to a 6 Prong and reworked the wiring. Below are images of the original 5 prong switch , as well the one I tried replacing it with. You can see a blob of solder on the original switch , which may have been some sort of ground? That may be why then the switch I replaced it with did not do the trick? The shop mechanic was not sure how the tractor ran for two years the way it was. He explained what he did , but afraid it fell on deaf ears with me. In any event the tractor starts and runs better than it ever has. It seems to have a lot more power also. Thank you again for all your help and advise.
Cheers!
Rich 🍻

Now if someone can walk me through how to post photos from my phone to the forum post/reply , I’ll include the pics of the switches I wrote of.
Thanks!

Sounds like it all worked out in the end and it runs. Mission accomplished! Thanks for the update

As for pictures, should be as simple as using the "add attachment" tab when posting but I'm getting a few years out of date on current technology after spending years keeping up with it closely.

Thanks Dave! Would have liked to have figured it out myself and confident that I could have with pics and help of others as yourself on the forum. If the grass stopped growing and/or I had a back up machine … well, next time maybe!
