Need some picts of Diesels...
Hi everyone, I need to do some pondering on building a diesel mini. Could anyone direct me to some picts of the engine compartment, or post some here? I'd really appreciate it. Also does anyone know how wide the diesel engine is. I'm thinking of dropping on into a stretched narrow frame chassis.
Thanks a ton,
Kurt

Kurt,
Would you like shots of a 1782? The engine sits in the frame backwards but it's the same D640/641 that's used in the older cubs I think...

That would be great. Could someone confirm if the engines are swapped end for end?
Thanks,

The flywheel faces forward on all of the diesels.

Here are some pics of mine when I was doing various repairs on it.
It is a pretty tight fit in an 82 series. Tim DeLooza put one in a 1650. It would be a rear shoehorn job in a narrow frame.

Kurt...
I think with a few modifications, you could shoehorn a 5.9 cummins in there!

Thanks for the picts Todd, I have someone who's interested in building a mini 1206... Maybe he'll want it turboed... that would be cool.
I think a 5.9 would be cool, but it may make the hood a little loooong...

Hey Todd, did you make the new exhaust manifold, or did you buy it somewhere? The exhaust would need to come about straight up from the side of the engine.
Thanks for those picts, they are really helping me in my brain storming. I think I'm going to use a 782 D to make the 1206. I think I'll be able to cut the frame down so it's pretty straight, and looks like a big tractor frome.

Re: Need some picts of Diesels...
Kurt,
The non turbo exhaust manifold is the original for the tractor. The turbo exhaust manifold was integral to the turbo. You might be able to find a Kubota
manifold from another application or make a log style manifold out of pipe.
I'm going to make a suggestion and I think a lot of others will agree with me on this. You would be better off all around to just find a Kubota diesel engine for your conversion rather than starting with a 782D. First of all, you are going to pay a good bit for a 782D; probably $1500-$2500. Now that may be within your budget, but that would be one less tractor out there for someone who is looking for one.
Based on your other tractor you built, this machine would be very cool and well done without a doubt. I just hate to see a rare, desirable tractor sacraficed to build it. By the time you finish there will be so few 782D parts that you would be able to use, you would have been better off to build these parts from scratch.
I see suitable engines for sale on ebay in the $500-$1000 range all the time. One of those along with any old 82 series chassis would put you way ahead money wise.
Here are 3 good candidates;

+1 for Todd...for heaven's sake, don't cut up a diesel. That's been done too many times already.
