As for my blower collection.... I have the boys use a basement entrance when it snows. So the other day the wife and kids come in from shovlin and were taking off the boots and a boys says" why do we shovle when we have 5 snowblowers right here!" Wife shakes her head and says " its crazy "

You had way too much fun! We only got about 15" down here in SW VA. Sorry it's the wrong color but none of my Cubs are set up for snow duty.

Tom Scott and other 450 owners: May want to inspect your snowblower gearbox. My brother's 450 left him down part way through snow removal. The brass gear in the gearbox and one of the shaft bushings need replaced. He said it looks like the grease dried up. So if you have never inspected that gearbox, you may want to. He is adding a grease Zerk and I suggested installing one of the seals with the lip out to avoid building up pressure pumping grease into to it. I had checked the gearbox on my QA 42 some time ago, but will check it again when I remove the blower.

Sam, from what I have read you have bought and paid your snow dues from when you lived up north. You didn't get as much, but that certainly is a long drive to clear. At least you could push it, a blade is so much faster than a blower.

Charlie, I have another thread somewhere about rebuilding the front spiral gear box for the 450. In that rebuild I added a grease zerk. That gearbox actually got swapped into a spare 451 I had, witch my buddy keiths now has. This 450 has the spiral box from the 451 (they are the same except for a housing change), and I was able to thread a zerk into the hole that normally just has a plastic plug.

In my previous write-up I discuss the different greases Cub has used. As Cub wants way too much money for a tootpaste tube of grease, I discuss trying Lubriplate 930-AAA which is NLGI "0" grade (thickness). I found that this is too thin for my gun (bulk loaded, not available in cartridges) and leaked past the plunger. I was finally able to use it by keeping the plunger locked back and just keeping the gun upside down.

Long story short, I am going to transition to Lubriplate 930-AA which is NLGI 1, and is available in cartridges https://www.lubriplate.com/Products/Mul ... eries.html. This grease is the correct clay based "Benalene" or "Bentone" type grease that Cub has always used in the main gearbox, and later used in the spiral box. Although it may be slightly thicker than what Cub used originally, I think I have the most greased gearboxes on the face of the earth... They get a few shots before each storm.

I haven't found the need to put any seals in backwards. Carefully observing for leakage while pumping and paying attention to the gun handle pressure has worked for me. Slightly thicker grease is no problem if it is being added regularly and is being forced up against the gears. I'm droning on here. I will save the extra excruciating detail for my update to the gearbox/grease thread I will do.

The Lake Effect machine hasn't targeted me yet...

Here are two pictures, as promised, of my awesome IH Cub Cadet 1450 equipped with IH 42" snow plow! We actually had about a 15" snow fall,...all lake effect, the last two days here on the north coast. Now, this weekend its time to clean up the 1450, and change the oil!
Next, in a week or two real soon, I'm going to spring for my favorite rear tires,.. Firestone Flotation 23 x 10.5 x 12 ! Don't mind saying that I enjoyed the very mild winter, and glad its on the way out!!! I'm also changing over to spring time Genuine Cub Cadet engine oil too on Saturday!!

Well, I don't think that things are going to be as easy for us this year.
Our first real accumulation last night amounted to about seven inches. I'm quite sure that they got much more than that North of the I-89 line.
This seemed like a good snow to push and also the ground is not totally frozen so I skipped the thrower. My emergency clutch repair from last week is holding up superbly! With my first real seat time I realized that the clutch is working better than it has in at least a year, the mount bracket had to have been flexing a lot before it finally broke away. I intend to keep it just the way it is with a few modifications in the near future. A quarter inch is going to get removed from the top of the bracket to get rid of the rubbing problem with the PTO rod, I'm going to drill and tap an 8-32 hole near the top and relocate that skanky ground wire, and the front section is going to get countersunk for a 5/16 flat head cap screw, that way it will still be possible to remove the clutch guard without the head of a bolt getting in the way.

Well, it's official. The snow piles are now higher than the tractor. Winter will be here in a few days. Wife has to go to work this afternoon so I punched some slots into the big drive. Will finish off when the snow stops. Made a huge mistake parking the 126 alongside the house, whole bunch of snow slid off the roof and now I have to dig it out

I don't miss CT. 62 here today, took the Honda MC out for a little ride.

First time out this season with the 126 and qa24. We picked up around eight inches. So that makes it 24 total so far for the season but last week most of that washed away. Figured I'd do in in the AM but then what the heck, let's have a light show. Pretty damp stuff. My rear mounted flood light is not going on, I think that the four position headlight switch is acting up. At least the fronts went on.
A tail light is out too, I think that the chains may have clipped the wire.
Will take a closer look in the daylight tomorrow-

Ken, looks like you might be in for a tough one this year. I'm still creeping up on being ready. 1872 is back in service, ready to go with the Haban blade; 2182-2 has mower deck removed, weights and chains on, still need to put blower on.

I finally got my blower mounted a few weeks ago, but its been like March here lately! And I'm good with that. Nearly 50 here today, but the cold is supposed to be back next week.

Ken, maybe you will get lucky and get enough melting to expose some rocks, then a hard freeze to lock it all in place!

We have had only one snow that was thrower worthy sofar this year, all the rest of them have been heavy and sleet like. My driveway is really poorly located, runoff from up the hill gathers to where it's flat and then freezes. Another matter is that we have not really had a hard freeze this year. Also the matter of the springs that seem to be everywhere help in adding to it. We had some sun melt this afternoon and I was able to dig in and move much of it off before trotting off to work- now the driveway is on the lawn again, nothing new there. Still and all I'm in better shape than two years ago, there is still plenty of room to put the stuff

Ken - I suspect you already have extra chain parts, but it is a good excuse to mention TireChain.com for complete sets of chains and parts. Their website is a little clunky, but I have been happy with everything I have gotten from them. I got a new set of 2-link 26x12x12, and they just seem a little easier to put on; the "Side Chain Fastener" they used just fit real nice.

I have also ordered individual cross chains and replacement side chain fasteners and cross hooks. Somewhere on their site they also discussed how theirs were better steel than cheaper brands. The new set of chains I bought from them years ago still look great. I also buy their rubber chain tensioners, they don't get beat up like the spring ones.

I wish everyone well with this storm. The ground is warm here, so with melting we are hearing totals anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. Sounds like it will be quite a bit more further north.

BTW, I grabbed some heavy tie wraps and secured the broken cross links. Could have been worse, it all could have come off- those chains are pretty tired by now.
All the snow engaging equiptment has been called into duty. The 126 had a roofs worth of snow on top of it so that had to get dug out first, not too bad of a job really. Then it would not start, the choke cable was frozen and a dirty spark plug got in my way, it had been sitting for well over a month. Changed the plug and disconnected the snap clip at the bracket and choked it manually. She touched right off then.
I'm starting to run out of room here now so I was grinding on the snow banks to shave them back. It's funny that I always leave plenty of room at the start of the season Here's the 102 after being parked for 15 minutes- I'm not bragging but damn that one is reliable.
They can sit here for now while I toast my buns, I'm sure that I'll be back out in a couple hours. I don't think I'm going to work this evening

Good job on the big clean up ken. We got lots of rain from like 2 to 5. At 5 it finally started....For a whopping 4". That's OK....I made a few bucks

Total bust down here, about 1/2" frozen onto the deck and grass, streets were fine.

Hey dag, why does your TLB have a picture of a TLB on the dash? Is that so you don't forget what you're driving? Seriously, does that picture light up and indicate the boom angles, or anything? It looks like that would have been a good place for a tachometer...
