We went from this to this in one week. Man is that water moving. Temp is 49 degrees. Drive way is holding together than expected.
But there's 6 more hours of rain in front of us. And all that snow melt too-

This is what happens when 2 inches of rain meets 2 feet of rapidly melting snow in 24 hours. A culvert about 400 feet up from this shot jammed up with snow and leaves. That was the primary failure.

To top it all off the 102 is acting up badly. I cleaned the gasoline screen and tried adjusting the carb. No change. It will run fine, reach a certain temp and then just cut out like turning the key off. I'll try replacing the coil and condenser next. With the way it is backfiring if I try to start it back up I'm suspecting an ignition issue.

Joe, thank you. I will keep that under consideration for sure. MMO is great stuff when I remember to mix it in.
I run only non ethanol gasoline. There was a substantial amount of junk in the sediment bowl which I cleaned out. Actually, I don't think it was ever cleaned since the engine rebuild was done 11 years ag , that did nothing to improve the matter.
I have had coils and or condensers act up exactly like that in the past just like that so it was an easy change out. That particular coil came from Napa and was made in Argentina so I was never all that fond of it in the first place.
After changing out those items I ran the engine for nearly a half hour and it never missed a beat, still I'm skeptical about taking the machine away hundreds of feet away from the house.
Everyone here has been out there with shovels, picks, chimney brushes, and whatever implements of construction that we can lay our hands on. A jammed culvert was responsible for roughly half of the damage.The drive is now passable on one side with a pickup truck. The team effort is clearly visible. Huge problem now being the ground froze back up and the blade on any little Cub will just glide over. Still, we are calling in professional help and probably 2 loads of stone will be needed. My man is booked with washed out drives and the hope is that he will be over Monday and try to do something for us. What a mess. Neighbor who had been here since 74 states it's the worst one ever.

Big jobs require big boy toys.

We had about two inches of wet snow overnight that was far more manageable for a little Cub Cadet and I spent about 45 minutes clearing out. The new gravel in the big drive has not settled to it's base yet so plowing with anything at this point will be an issue until we have a hard freeze.
To back up a bit about the engine cut out issue I was experiencing before, today there was never any sign of trouble so it's looking more now like the coil or condenser that were acting up. I did take Joe's advice and added TWO cap fulls of MMO to one gallon of gasoline.

I ordered in two condensers from Napa. Will be finding out just how good they are in the long haul. I noticed that they appear exactly like the Kohler part pictured in the middle. While looks really don't mean a lot they seem to be of very good construction and at half the price of the Kohler part they should be worth a try.

I've been so busy I didn't get around to posting my pics of 7" of snow that was beat down to 3" by freezing rain during the "big one". After seeing Ken's pics mine don't warrant much consideration! Sorry for your troubles Ken!

As far as NAPA parts go, they are just a "re-boxer" of parts and you're never usually sure of the source, but I have found that NAPA's generic parts are generally higher quality than Advance Auto or any other chain parts store. I usually like to get a name brand, but I think in general NAPA packaged stuff is quite good. They seem to have good standards on who they choose to package.

A follow up on my engine cut out issue. I'm 100% confident it was ignition being the culprit. After changing out the coil and condenser with known good used parts she has been running like a well oiled clock once again. That said I'm not skipping out on the the Marvel Mystery Oil any more.
This thing showed up in my mailbox today. Folks can do whatever they want but IMHO for long life and very hot spark one can't do better than this. And the Amazon price is lower than the genuine Kohler replacement too. Also it's epoxy filled not oil, and with the internal resistor. Just as a side note these are no longer made in Germany and have not been for going at least nine years that I know of. But it carries the Bosch label and therefore Bosch high quality standards. These days they are made in Brazil where they don't know anything about VW beetles

Brazil produced Beetles long after Germany, like 10 years or more.....Mexico too. There were likely more Beetles built and driven in South America than any other place on the planet.

Mike is correct. The Bosch blue is nowadays made exclusively in Brazil where they happen to know everything there is to know about beetles. Brazil has a long established reputation as an industrial powerhouse, there is little not made there.
Beware of the Chinese imitation knock offs right down to their bogus packaging. Experience has taught me those things suck.
The real deal will be sealed with this scan verification code. View from the connection end designates internal resistance of four ohms. Also, the bottom end will be stamped like this, any imitation knock offs will not. To the best of my understanding when Bosch started up production in Brazil on these at first they were silver. This was to distinguish them from their German counter parts still in production.
This one is twenty years old and still going strong. At the time the purists disliked the fact that they were sourcing from Brazil- our local VW garage told me so. Essentially, folks considered them second rate quality. They were not.
One other thing to look out for. A Bosch silver coil with ORANGE labeling is 1.8 ohm internal resistance and will not work on these machines.
This is a great coil and I will settle for nothing else. Best cold start ups ever.
Perhaps with this things are clearer than the mud in my driveway now.

So everything about this particular storm is pointing to a power outage with the way all the limbs are bent down.

What’s the total? Just a icey costing yesterday morning washed away by rain. Then sun in the afternoon, a dusting over night last night. Not even enough to sand the driveway!

We had about three to four inches. This was real high moisture content stuff and the humidity at the time was 99%. We never lost power but many around us did. Many trees and limbs went down.This section of the grid has had many improvements done on in just the more recent years, this due to several newer solar projects and also a very large sugaring operation just up the road from me. Just twenty years ago there were sections of line that still had the old style telegraph type cross bars remaining on a couple of the poles. Over time all of hat has all been replaced.
It was good stuff to push and it stayed together well when doing so, as you can see I have push uphill with a lot of it, my choices of where to put it are limited due to our terrain. With a strong freeze coming our way it's important to move that back as far as possible before it turns to concrete. The brown showing on the snow is not exposed dirt, this is what the snow groomed off the trees.

It sure is pretty out here today. Four inches of light powder made for an easy push The used coil and condenser that I mounted a couple of weeks ago continue to function perfectly. With all the dents in the bottom of that coil it's amazing the thing works at all.

Looks and sounds like the perfect storm ken. We are still waiting for more here in southeast pa.

I have had about nine inches of medium powder fall with more to come so it would seem. The three fur trees near the house are going to have to come down this Spring, they are badly twisted and will not recover. They were getting too large anyway. Not sure yet if I'm heading into work this Evening, but at least I'm dug out for now.

This time we had a big snow maker. Local weather in town said we got 33" in 2 days. I plowed with the trusty 125 and there was about 14"on Monday, it was nice any dry, but today's was a lot wetter and there was more. I began to run out of places to push it, so I had the use the walk behind to get the 4' pile the town left at the end of the driveway.

.. yeah thanks for reminding me Ken! If I don't see another flake all winter I'm fine with that!! I do a little side hustle with the backhoe for some extra spending money. Well I don't want any more money. Lol. 18 hrs in the backhoe is more than my old hips and knees can handle. This 10" came in three phases. Dry on Sunday night, sleet on Monday (all day), normal to wet on Tuesday. This is all i saw for 18 hrs

Wait for it now, there's more coming.
And to think that I got the truck dug out just today.

We are having fun today. I told those guys to get out here last week before the refreeze. But the driver could not get through because of the 200 year old Elm tree blocking the road. Anyway we were down to 1/8 of a tank and I called back. Get here.
This was the result. Actually, the driver did a super job on the save the way he veered into the ditch after hitting that icy slope.

Yes Joe, it's a very common issue around here with lots of folks having drives just as bad as mine or worse. Boatloads of money can solve a lot of issues. I'd love to have the drive paved but it's a shared right of way with two other households and they would never sign on for that. The plow truck leaves a skim layer of snow that the sun melts and then later it freezes back up.The deep freeze has arrived and some locals are reporting septic issues, mine is five feet below surface so no issues there. I had asked the fuel company to come out when it was in good shape but they did not follow through. A seven mile detour would have been needed to get around that downed tree. They seriously should have considered that instead of burning up 30 miles worth of #2.They chose to show up at the worst possible time instead, and just before my plow and sander guy showed up. No doubt they were just trying to ensure that we were safe. My hat's off to them.The whole thing fell under Murphy's law and this was the first time we ever had an oil truck bog down here. He got up just fine but getting down, well that's another issue, it must have been a scary few seconds for that driver, it's common to have about one tip over a year. He made a good save and what he did was the smart call.
It was a pretty fast recovery with some plowing and sanding done along the bottom, a snatch block around a tree, and their twenty ton recovery vehicle. My impression was they deal with this sort of thing all the time and it was a done deal in 45 minutes. It's all part of the price that we pay I suppose to support out rural outback lifestyle but that's what helps keeps to away the curious. With the current housing boom that is going on here lately due to Covid 19, and with flatlanders now wanting a piece of our pie everything is about to change around here forever.There are some who welcome them but there are many of us here who do not.
So I'm thinking for some time that I'm going to retire to Tennessee one of these days and now it's snowing here again, another 3 to 6 is predicted. Ugh.

What a difference a week makes. We have gone from a deep freeze to a full thaw in a matter of only several days. The Maple sap is running and the sugaring buckets are up all along our road. But if it turns colder again that can shut back off with no notice.
While the majority of the Maples tapped around here are piped in the ones along the road are still bucketed in. So it would seem that mud season could be just around the bend. Unless it snows until May like it did last year.
