Not a cub, but a pretty cool tractor

Not a cub, but a pretty cool tractor

Post by AJGross »

This showed up at my house today. It's a 1966 Colt 2712. It seems to be a pretty cool tractor. Hydraulic drive and lift. Only bummer is the pos Tecumseh engine. It also came with a Kohler but it's not complete and blown up.

That looks like a nice engine bay to house a Magnum 20 or a Command 8-)

You had better watch what you say about repowering that tractor! I can tell you don't hang out in the Case, Colt, Ingersoll forum. Just mentioning that might get you banned for life. I got ripped on for suggesting that I might get some of the parts powdercoated because it didn't come from the factory like that! Definitely a different group of guys!

AJ , nice tractor .
When I first looked at the pictures of your Colt , I thought it looked alot like a 400 series or 190 Case.
That was before you mentioned that it was a relative of the Case/Ingersol corporation.
I went over to the Case site that Cal posted and read a few of there forums .
My first impression of those Case guys is they're more anal retentive than the cub group across the street.
They would have heart failure if they seen some of the engine transplants and paint schemes we put on our cubs .
I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

What size are the rear tires? I think I need a set of those.

You should throw a diesel in it or paint it yellow and white. That would get them.
From the first Original to the last x82 Series... you can't beat an IH Cub Cadet!!!

I'm with BM on this one. That thing is begging for a mag or command transplant.

I was thinking of pissing off the Case/Colt/Ingersoll guys and painting it red and make it look something like a miniture IH 560 or something similar.

AJGross, I have been a member one the Case Colt ingersoll forum for about a year now. They are very anal about what happens with the early rarer tractors like yours, it would be like me taking the serial #501 Original or finding a cubette, and hacking it up to make a puller. There are plenty of modifications and alternate paint schemes to the rest of the tractors, that they all fully support. They know more about Case Colt and Ingersoll tractors than anyone else on the web. I have a 1981 444 and a 1983 222 parts tractor. The have helped me tremendously with my 444 and gave me all kinds of suggestions on a brigs vanguard repower, and industrial yellow paint scheme.
Have a original and a 122 http://mycubs.yolasite.com/

It's been for sale ever since the weekend. The guys on the Colt forums are the biggest bunch of assholes i've seen. One guy had me so pissed I almost put a axe through the hood of it and posted a pic. I figured the best way to get even would be to part it out. If I lose money on it, I don't really care. Problem is that there are so few of them out there that nobody needs parts. Only thing people want to buy is the rear wheels.

AJ it's your tractor man... offer it for sale if you want or repower it and make a decent tractor out of it.

AJ, I wouldn't get that all bent about those guys, As nice as yours seems to be maybe a bit of jealousy showing.

I'd just take my time , and someday you will make out of it what you want .

I read through your thread you had on there. Your right, what a bunch of losers. From my experience a lot of the Case/Colt guys are jerks. Part it out, and buy a good old Cub Cadet.
