Lathe

Post by mgonitzke »

I will no longer have to borrow a lathe when I need one...dad picked this up at an auction over the weekend. Needs a little work and is 3-phase, but the price was right. I think Dave K. has me set straight on running it with a VFD.

Atlas is a pretty decent lathe. You have much experience running a lathe? Feel free to ask any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Yeah, somewhat...used a few much larger ones in high school, and I've worked on a few CC projects and parts on my dad's friend's lathe.

I may eventually have some questions about getting everything set up and adjusted and stuff before it is used for the first time. Any clue what the rough age of it is? It's 3990 if that helps any. It came from a local school and even came with the instruction manual.

I bought an old logan four or five years ago because the price was right and it has become indispensable for making your own parts. nice find

Good addition to the shop Matt.
I made do with my small flat way Atlas/Craftsman for many years until I found my South Bend....MAN do I like having a lathe that will take a smooth cut.

Matt...
Keep the barn door locked...I know where you live and I want a lathe about that size over what I currently have....

Would like something with at least 10" swing and 24-36" between centers

Get your hands on the wheels of either of these and prepare to be spoiled really fast!
