If I could find a job there I'd move. Other than my job here in Evansville I really have no reason to stay here any longer. I've thought about changing careers, but I honestly don't know what I would do etc. I've spent a lot of time and money on my current career path so I'd be much better off sticking with it, but there are very few jobs for Social Work type stuff in small towns and even when they are open they don't pay much.

Who needs a job when your a farmer?

If your going to make a major change do it while your young(er) I made a fairly major change at 40 and it wasn't too bad but I wouldn't want to do it now.

I had a flat tire on the beast I had to fix as well. Getting the tube in and out of a tire that big is not fun. And if you ever have to do this do not put the valve stem on the very top, that made the job 10X worse.

So while the big tractor was broke I had to use the little one. Plus it gets in and out of the woods much easier as my dad made every path on this farm small tractor sized. The biggest tractor he ever owned was about 65hp.

The sad this is the right front wheel on the little tractor is on my back porch right now as it too is flat and needs fixed... evidently I am hard on tires??

And no that is not my backside hanging out of the tire... that's the my mom's neighbor who works for a tire company that owed me a favor!

Tire busters are some of the toughest guys in the world! I had a big pile of wheels and rims from Cubs that I had to break down to scrap the rims and after about four I gave up for the day......I cannot imagine wrestling with those big ole farm tires.

So when I bought this tractor I was told the AC didn't work. (wasn't an issue in winter time) I've used it a few times this summer and it gets really hot inside the cab even with the window cracked open. So this past weekend I finally decided to try out the AC and see what didn't work.

I started the tractor for the first time that day and turned the knobs to AC and it was almost immediately cold. As I drove the tractor some though the AC was getting warmer and warmer. It was then I remembered in the manual about a valve on the motor to shut the engine coolant off from going to the cab for the heater. I got out of the cab opened the hood and found the valve. Once it was turned in (off) the ac quickly went back to cold, and after a few minutes the cab felt really good. SO much so that when I got back out again my sunglasses fogged up!

Now I'm not bragging but having an air conditioned cab is a big danged deal to a simple country boy whop has NEVER had such luxury in a tractor before. I've used the neighbors tractors with AC but never has Baker farm had one!

I might do a thread on it's refurb to get it working again. it needs some TLC.

I also picked up a "slightly used" Bobcat 843 for the farm this summer well. It helped build the new rifle range, and has been a great asset to have around.

I just have lost about all interest in working on Cub Cadets. I mow every week with my 3240 and I still have my ole 782, another 3240, and a couple other 3K machines, but I think I am going to sell the other two.

I'd like to come up to plow day at AW's this fall but am not 100% sure I will make it. I am interested in the Big Red tractors though and will use this one at the farm once I get it running and working. I want to find a 15-20' batwing for it. I picked it up pretty cheap.

Growing up the neighbor had a 986 and I absolutely loved that tractor. I've always wanted one. About a year ago I finally decided I wasn't getting any younger and whether I needed one or not I wanted an 86 series tractor to play with. So I started researching them and learning about them. I had it narrowed down to wanting a 986, 1086, or a 1486. I stumbled on this 1486 in northern Indiana and brought her home. It needs a lot of work, but I could throw 10K at it and still not be hurt as long as it ran and worked in the end. I don't anticipate it will take no where near that much to get her going, but will soak up a few dollars in the TA alone!

I keep telling myself it's just a bigger version of my 782!

Bryan, have you also graduated to a goose neck trailer? From what I can see in the picture, that's quite an upgrade from your other trailer.

No not yet. That trailer is a company trailer that is part of my other "adopted" family. My best childhood friend Kieth hauled the monster home for me. It's a construction company so hauling equipment is nothing new for them.


I do need to buy my own gooseneck one of these days but my brother in law has had possession of my dually for the past couple years, and in Indiana I'm not sure how long it is till it's his truck by common law lol

Not sure if you guys consider this an upgrade or not. Kinda the wrong color but...... Julie bought this tractor a few weeks ago while I was at work. Only picture I have currently when she was driving it home. 1951 JD B. Her Grandfather bought it when it was a year old. Her grandmother sold it at auction after her grandfather died. Her dad tracked it down and bought it back around the late 80s or early 90s. Julie's father died in 02. The tractor has seen little use since then. It needs the usual tweaking after sitting for a while but we will get it right. I have my grandfathers 54 IH Super H and now she has her grandfathers 51 JD B. So far they are living peacefully in the same garage.

Really cool Cal! I sold most of dad's old tractors for mom but I did keep my grandpa's Oliver super 55 he bought new and a C Allis dad worked over several years ago. Both have been sitting for some time.

I guess I forgot to update that I bought a 1086 as well. And then my cousin was going to sell his 706 cheap.... But the 706 will be leaving soon my best friend growing up wants it to build a puller.

This early 986 came home a couple weeks ago as well. 986 is what I originally wanted. It's rough but runs good and seems to all work like it should.

Dunno how many times guys have called me an "Allis Guy"... yeah, I've got Allis tractors, and yeah, I don't have green, red, grey, or blue ones, but it's like this: When you have all the tools 'n stuff to work on a particular type, you buy spares to provide necessary parts, and some are good enough to mix match to make another good runner, so you got a spare... but if you buy some other (like a Yellow one), you don't have the tools and parts for that brand...

I'd love to have like... one of EVERY one ever built... mebbie except for a FORD N or a Deere...

But I'll tell 'ya what- there's 'automatic grace' from brand-teasing when a guy or gal obtains one that's not in our 'socially welcomed' brand:

I agree but also tend to like all tractors regardless of color. So much of it is personal preference anyway. I just always wanted a IH 86 series tractor, specifically a 986. But I'd also like to have a 2-105 White and an 8830 or TW-10 Ford as well. Or a Boxcar 4WD Magnum would work too! If only money wasn't a problem!

If I ever strike it rich, I'd be kind of like Jay Leno except with tractors!

Picked up a one owner low hour (4700) 986 a few weeks ago. It's in really good shape just needs the paint touched up some. New radials on the back and new front tires. AC isn't currently working so I need to dive into that.


Sold the previous 986 in favor of keeping this one. So that currently has me at 3 big IH tractors. Only the 986 currently runs.

Still want to find a 1586 at some point.... yes folks even big tractors multiply like Cubs. Just maybe not as fast!

This happened a couple weeks ago. It's a 1979 Red Power Demonstrator. I too am a 1979 vintage so I am stoked to have finally gotten one.

This make 4 big red tractors 986, 1086, 1486, and now a 1586. I think I am officially done.
