Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
The "Bump" is the Watts linkage mount....This keeps the rearend centered with respect to the frame.
BM............Maybe a supercharged Kubota and Super Sheetmetal..............
One thing is fore sure...I could buy a LOT of cubs for what I have in this!
Can't wait for warm weather to unleash the 489 HP at 6000 rpm's.....
That is the HP my desktop Dyno Software calculates with the engine modifications.

Looks Great Frank ! U hit the nail on the head with the money thing, that is why im into cubs, they r alot cheaper. I can justify every penny spent to the wife "honey we need to mow the lawn dont we".............."and remove the snow". Keep the pics coming on this. Dave

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
Restoring it to sell. It sat for 26 years so it is a ground up restoration. Intend to put it on the market for twice what I have in it.
If it is not painted it is chromed or polished aluminum. Even the underside of the body is polished aluminum. Lots and Lots of chrome.
The chrome is old school chrome so it is thick and will endure for quite some time.
Everything has been gone through. Engine is a complete rebuild with new rods, new valve springs, valve job, relieving of ports, 11.5 to 1 and completely rebuilt and tuned Holley 700. New gear drive and camshaft with .533/.561 lift. New oil pump, pan, timing cover and trans pan. Complete new rearend with disc brakes. New calipers all around and new master cylinder as well as all brake lines and wiring. New tires and rear wheels.
When this is done I have two Mustangs 65 and 66 to restore and another t-bucket.
This is why I wanted to liquidate the remaining cubs and accessories so I could concentrate on this. Looking for more ground up restorations to do. Have partnered with a body shop to do restorations. I do all of the mechanical, documentation while he does the body and painting.

BB:
According to my Dyno software at 6000rpms it should kick out 489Hp....
350 Chevy .060 over, 11.5 to 1 TRW's on Scat Rods, .533/.561 solid lifter cam, 2.02x1.65 ported/polished heads with screw in studs, guides, dual springs and crane roller rockers.
Gear driven cam torker w/700cfm holley and dual point Mallory mechanical distributor and sprint car headers.
Hope the 12" Mickey Thompson Street/drag tires hold some of the power.....
At about 1600# it may be hard.
Disc brakes at all 4 corners.
Turbohydro 350 with 3000 stall converter and B&M valve body.
Brings back memories of the racing days.

Frank, I know you got your plans for a SB Chebby.... but a really cool powerplant would be a new Ford 5.0 cammer motor.... And they are nasty!

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
Love it! Nice work so far! Having made a small block 383 Chevy, I can tell anyone that a Chevy will go just as fast as a Ford for less money. But for Ray's argument, Ford was big in the quarter mile in the early to late '60's,.... while the Hemi 392 dominated a lot. My one-ton GMC could easily eat the 5.0 stock Mustangs, for a stretch as the Dana 4.56 rear end would be winning at about 80 miles per hour,......
Love the build, do keep us informed

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
John,I have a 5.0 in my 2012 F-150 and based on its performance I can barely imagine what one in a Mustang would be like but I have a feeling it would be WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOw
The new 5.0 is definitely not you Fathers 5.0(302)

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
Oh, the 383 Vortec was a little monster. Even my friend's '89 5.0 would shoot and get. The '87 Caprice HO were great too, and even the Thunder coup 5.0's would book. If I had a Vega, and the engine I built to put it in would have been great! I even sold my restored 62' Falcon to chip in on the short block 383. We should have punched it out .30 over, but I was already up to 7k in the engine and that was fun for me. The Formulas were quick too,..!

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
I think you can get a new 5.0 crate motor for around 6K it's not cheap, but it's a 400hp with no mods revving monster that's light. I'm a Chevy guy, but Ford got the new 5.0 right...
Add a little boost to it, and it's plum nasty

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
now if it works they might keep it for 3 or 4 years then move on that's one thing about ferd is they change engines so often they cant fail or get it right sorry but I am of the kind lets make it for a while like 1955 to 2003 and over 400,000,000 copies and still the cheapest engine to build bar none I just wish cub cadet would stand behind their old tractors like chevy does their engines

Re: Since it is yellow does it count?
I've had them all except the new 5.0 ford.
Started with 327 fuel injected C/G Anglia, proceeded to a 440 BBC A/FD, went back to 400 (392) AA/DA and AA/FD. Wrenched on only Nostalgia Top Fuel Double Overhead Cam 427.
This bucket came with the 350 so it is staying on this restoration project. I have a goal of building a personal T-Bucket and it will have a 460 Ford with a 6-71.
SBC's are by far the cheapest to Hot Rod due to the long run of production and multitude of after market parts. I am a Ford person but cannot deny the advantages of the SBC.
Bottom line is...how much money you want to throw at any engine. It is all HIgh Dollar Horsepower in the end.

BB
Cheating....
A friend's body shop is where I redid it. He insisted I do it there since he did the paint work.
Gonna have a bunch of Super Diesels up for sale soon.
Getting out of the cub arena completely. No time....
4 Cars to restore now so something has to go.
Waiting for a bankruptcy to sell a nice shop here in town..... May try and buy it....
The body shop guy wants to sell also, but I have no need for a body shop since I don't do paint.... Would be a nice shop since it is heated and A/C and three blocks from the house but too much for my pocket book....
