Son's Kitchen

Post by ReicheP »

It's coming along. I'm making the island base now. Still have to make the end panels for cabinets. Counter top is walnut, island top is walnut, cherry, red oak, white oak, maple and Catalpa.

Looks real nice Paul!

I wish I could find a piece of catalpa big enough to turn a bowl on the wood lathe.

Mike , How big of diameter piece do you need . The power company just came thru this fall and trimmed the crap out of one of my big old Catalpa's ...There's some rather large limbs they took out of it and there so big that they are sitting in a woodpile waiting to be split into firewood .

Paul , I like that island counter top .
I see a lot of cub cadets while going down the tracks , its a shame I can't pull over and ask about them .

Nice!! Keep the pics coming Paul. I told the wife I want to make a wooden island top that is about 2inches thick.....kinda rustic. I have several old catalpa trees on my property and never dreamed that soft wood would b good for much. Dave

Dave,

There are only a few strips of Catalpa in that top. I actually don't like Catalpa, the aroma of the wood during machining I really really don't like.

Paul - That's real nice work. So after looking at something like this that our members do, sometimes I click on the name to see if they listed their occupation. Sometimes it is interesting to see how different or similar someone's occupation is to their home projects.

So for Paul: Furniture Maker. We got a ringer here!

Jess, I sent a PM about the catalpa.

Paul, how does the Dust Deputy(cyclonic dust filter) work for you? I am about half way through converting my lathe from Reeves drive to VFD and once that is done I want to look into controlling the dust better. I have a powered collector but from what I have read a cyclonic collector will help a lot.

Mike,

That cyclone works very well. Everything ends up in the bucket and your vacuum filter stays clean.
