Houlton Bridge

Post by wdeturck »

This is the bridge that is replacing the 100 year old 2 lane bridge in the background. I live upriver in Oakmont, PA. There as a rumor going around that the middle span (that was built on a barge and has 5 sections) was too short. I went down to the river and got these pictures and shows it in place. The old bridge will be used till October and will be closed for 2 weeks to connect the new bridge. About 24,000 cars use the old bridge. The nw 4 lane bridge won't help much as the first two blocks in Oakmont is lanes and can't be widened so the traffic jams in the morning and evening will continue.

Nice! The new bridge does look "clean" and very thin......but kinda lacks that old world charm of the truss-work. Thanks for sharing. Dave
